TOWN OF DANVILLE FIELDS INFORMATION AND FACTS
By Scott Diekman, DLL Fields Director and Sports Alliance Rep
Topic: Town of Danville including Town parks and School Sites.
Fact 1:
There are not enough fields available for all of theuser groups in the town. This is true for Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Adult Soccer, Lacrosse, etc. Additionally there are more leagues that would like touse the fields in town including Rugby, Flag Football, Travel Baseball teams, Etc. This is the reason T-ball and Farmare played on the grass at Osage. There is simply no other place to play.
Fact 2:
There is a very active group of home owners near all of the schools and parksthat watch and complain regularly to the town regarding noise and type of usage.A couple of examples includefield usage atMontair, Baldwin and DiabloVistaMiddle School.Montair has always been a SRVGAL field and when it was renovated it was mandated Softball only as a condition of renovation, Baldwin neighbors would like it to be only used from 10am till 4pm on Saturdays and not at all on Sundays. Thishasn't happened and lets hope it doesn't. AtDiabloVistaMiddle School a brand new 60' diamond was built, it was used for only a month or so until it was closed do to complaints from neighbors. If you go out there, you can see that it is still fenced off after more that a year. The school district doesn't have the funds to remove it.
Fact 3:
All of the fields that are available for public use are rented through the town at an hourly fee and all user groups are required to rent field space. These fees are paid by all users regardless of the size or affiliation of the user groups. Mostusers of town fields are part of a group called the Sports Alliance. Through the Sports Alliance field usage issues and needs are discussed and hopefully resolved. Additionally through this group users book their field spacethrough the town. As a member of this group we agree to abide by any and allusage restrictions on the fields. Such as Montair being Softball only. This was a condition for SRVGAL to install the little field at Montair.
Fact 4:
In addition to paying a hourly fees to use the fields, Danville Little League and all other Sports Alliance Members pay fees to theSports Alliance Group. These fees are used to help maintainfields that have multiple user and forforward planning and to pay for what is essentially a field usage cop early every baseball season. With the number of different sports groups in the town, almostall of the fields are rented 24/7 by one user group or another for long periods of time. DLL has its fields from March 1 to July 31 every year, and as soon as we are done Mustang Soccerhas them until they are closed for the Winter.
Fact 5:
Sincemostall of the fields are rented to user groups year after year for months at a time users become protective of there field space. On top of that many user groups pay to install and or maintain the fields they use. For Instance Danville Little League has paid for fields to be installed at OsagePark and GreenbrookSchools. Additionally we do a great deal of upkeep on all of our fields atOsage, Baldwin, and Greenbrookthroughout theseason.
THIS MEANS:
With all of this in mind we need all of our teams and coaches to only practice at the sites we have permission to use. These sites include Osage park, Greenbrook, Baldwinand DiabloVistaMiddle Schools. These are the only fields we officially have space on or at.
Essentially Danville Little League has all of the main grass area at Osage. The grass area next to the tennis courts are not rented by us, but It is availablefor use ifno othergroup is there, but you will need to move if Lacrosse or a Town of Danville user such as Kids Love Soccer are going on or show up.At Baldwin we have the north field and 1/2 of the grass where adult soccer plays on Sundays. At Greenbrook, DLL rentsall of the main grass area and both ball diamonds. Our time at DiabloVistaMiddle School is essentially already done for the year.
Hopefully, this helps clarify some of the field usage issues.
Thanks,
