Directions: Use the map The Underground Railroad, 1850-1860 on page 595 to answer the following questions.

Directions: Use the Free and Slave States and Territories, 1820-1854 on page 598 to fill in the Kansas-Nebraska Act, 1854 map and answer the questions below.
1. Use black pen or pencil to label ALL of the STATES EAST of the Mississippi River and
Arkansas, California, Iowa, Missouri, Louisiana, and Texas.
2. Use blue colored pencil to shade in the free-states. Use grey colored pencil to shade in the
slave states.
3. Use green colored pencil to draw in and label the 30’30 line.
4. Use yellow colored pencil to shade in the area on the map CLOSED to slavery under the
Compromise of 1850.
5. Use red colored pencil to shade the territories on the map OPEN to slavery under the
Compromise of 1850.
6. Use red colored pencil to cross-hatch (draw diagonal lines) across the territories open to
