Morning Procedure

At 8:00 AM, the front and backdoor will open. (**If your child is enrolled in our Beforecare program, purchasing school breakfast or meeting with a teacher, please have your child enter through the multipurpose room door on the blacktop side prior to 8:00 AM.)

From 8:00 AM -8:05 AM: Students in Grades 3-5 enter andgo to the gym. Students in Grades 6-8 enter and go to the multipurpose room.

From 8:05 AM – 8:15 AM: Students in Grades 3-5 go to their classroom. Students in Grades 6-8 go to their lockers then homeroom.

Kiss and Drop is located in the front on Prospect Avenue or the back on Abbott Avenue. If you do not see a staff member on the Abbott Avenue Kiss and Drop side, then the back door is locked and your child will be standing outside unsupervised. If you arrive after 8:15 AM, please use the front entrance.

Dismissal Procedure

At 2:35 PM, all children are dismissed to walk home alone unless the request for supervision is filled out on the Emergency Information form.

Dismissal Exits:

Grade 3 –Slocum Avenue (door in the middle of the street)

Grade 4 –Slocum Avenue (door closest to Abbott Avenue)

Grade 5 –Prospect Avenue (door on the corner of Slocum and Prospect Avenue)

Grades 6-8 – Exit from any door

We cannot have unsupervised children in the school. All students should be out of school by 2:45 PM unless under the direct supervision of a teacher or coach. Unsupervised students after this time are subject to disciplinary action.

Electronic Devices

Electronic devices such as cell phones and gaming systems must be turned off in school to not disrupt learning and teach children to interact with each other. If an electronic device is visible, the staff member will ask your child for the device. An administrator will return the deviceat the end of the school day. On the second infraction, we will return the device to a parent. On the third and subsequent infraction, we will return the device to a parent and the student will receive detention. Cell phones can be turned on at 2:45 PM. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Parental/Guardian Involvement

Parental/Guardian involvement is greatly encouraged. Parents are reminded to remain outside the building for drop off and pick up. All visitors must enter the main entrance on Prospect Avenue. If you do have a meeting with a staff member, please obtain a visitor’s pass at the front desk. (Please note –you will be asked to present a picture identification.) The best way to speak to your child’s teacher is with an appointment. We have a scheduled Parent-Teacher Conference night on December 5th. However, you are encouraged to email/meet with your child’s teacher throughout the year. Please contact the teacher or secretary to arrange a meeting.

Breakfast andLunch Program

Students are able to bring home lunch or purchase school lunch. No glass bottles, soda or candy is allowed in the lunchroom. Cash is accepted at the register. However, we prefer you use a check to pay for the lunch program to avoid money getting lost. Breakfast and lunch menus are available on our website in the Food Services section. If you are interested in free/reduced lunch, please complete the application that will be sent home with your child on the first day of school.

Grades 3-8 Breakfast is served from 7:30-7:55 AM in the multipurpose room.No lunch is served on single session days.

Absence or Tardy Procedure

In accordance with the provisions of state law (N.J.S.A. 18A:38-25), every parent/guardian shall cause their child to regularly attend school. If your child is absent for more than three consecutive school days due to health reasons, he/she must return with a doctor’s note.

Please call our school nurse’s line (201-943-4299, ext. 1) before 8:15 AM to report your child late or absent. If you do not call the school, please expect a call from us to verify the absence. Students will receive detention for being late to school and may not be promoted to the next grade level due to excessive absences. Please refer to the handbook about important attendance and tardiness information.

Before and Aftercare Program

The Beforecare program is available from 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM. The Aftercare program is available from 2:45 PM to 6:00 PM. (On single session days, aftercare is available from 12:25 PM to 6:00 PM.) Please visit the ridgefieldschools.com website to print out the forms. (Go to PROGRAMS tab and select SACC- Student Aged Childcare) If you would like an application sent home with your child, please call the main office. Aftercare is not provided on delayed opening days, emergency dismissal or early snow dismissal days.
