Scenario Two – Hurricane Warning

The day is Friday October 29, 2010. The time is 0730 AM. It is a perfect day in San Antonio. The temperature is 80 degrees, clear and sunny. The Nnational Wweather Sservice (NWS) announces that a d a tropical depression has formed in the eastern central Atlantic Ocean. The re is a chance the depression is forecast to move over warm water during the next few days and strengthen into Tropical Storm Kirby.can form in to a tropical cyclone or hurricane. The day is Thursday November 4, 2010. The time is 1200 noon. Kirby strengthened into a Hurricane overnight and is now a category two hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph. Kirby is moving to the west at 15 mph. Hurricane Warnings have been issued declared for Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The tropical depression has formed into a category two hurricane with maximum gusts up to 110 mph moving eastward at 15 to 20 mph. Conditions over the Gullf of Mexico are favorable for further strengthening of Kirby. The NWS forecasts Kirby to be over the Gulf of Mexico by Saturday, where conditions are favorable for further developmentThere is a good chance the storm will continue to move into the Gulf of Mex.i The 5-day forecast places Kirby just east of Corpus Christico and continue towards the Brownsville, TX area on Tuesday.

The day is Sunday November 76, 2010. The time is 1700 PM. Hurricane Kirby is now a category four storm with maximum sustained winds of 135 mph gusting up to 150 mph. The storm is headed towards the west northwest and Corpus Christi area and will likely make landfall anywhere from the northern Mexico to central Louisiana on Wednesday morning November 10, 2010. should maintain hurricane force winds through the Sand Antonio area. The NWS has issued a Hurricane Watch for this area. The storm is headed towards the Corpus Christi area and should maintain hurricane category speeds through the Sand Antonio area. The storm should hit land in the early morning hours of Wednesday November 109, 2010. Mandatory evacuations have been declared along the mid Texas coast from Kingsville to Port O’Connor. Corpus Christi to San Antonio (approximately a 150 mile radius surrounding Corpus Christi should begin evacuating northwest). The Texas Department of Public Safety has opened the evacuation lane on I-37 and is monitoring traffic flow. A declaration has been made to direct all I-37 lanes northbound.

1.  The day is MondayTuesday November 8 96, 2010. The time is 1700 PM. WNWS Hurricane Warnings are in effect along the mid Texas coast including throughout the City of Corpus Christi and San Antonio area. Winds have picked up along the coast bringing four to six foot waves with them. The latest update from the NWS stateshas announced that the storm is 350 miles southeast of Corpus Christi. Tropical storm force winds will begin impacting the mid Texas coast within 36 hours. is approximately 10 to 15 hours out. Hurricane Kirby is still a category four storm on the Saffir Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale and there is no sign of it weakeningdiminishing. Warnings are being sent notifying people and businesses of the fact. Messages are also being sent to people who have not left the area asking them to please seek refuge until the storm is over.

The day is Thursday November 118, 2010. The time is 0800 AM. The storm moved through the southern Texas area leaving extensive damage. Hurricane Kirby has been downgraded to a tropical depression. It continues to move through western Oklahoma bringing along heavy rain in its path. A federal disaster has been declared by the President of the United States for the metropolitan Corpus Christi and San Antonio areas.
