Introduction

Aida B. Gonzales Elementary School of Banga North District and aims to t commit every pupil success in learning with caring, responsive and safe environment that is free from discrimination, violence against children committed in schools, corporal punishments and bullying or peer abuse. Our school works to ensure that all pupils have the equal opportunity in developing their fullest potentials.

Scope and Limitation

This SCPP is intended for the pupils, from Kindergarten up to grade Six level and even out of school-youth who are part of the community, teachers and other stakeholders of Aida B. Gonzales Elementary School of Banga North District.

Definition of Terms

Child abuse – is any form of psychological or physical, verbal, emotional, or sexual mistreatment or lack of care that leads to injury or harm. It commonly occurs within the relationship of trust or responsibility and is an abuse of power or a breach of trust. Abuse can happen to a young person regardless of their age, gender, race or ability.

Bullying – may come from another young person or an adult. Bullying define as deliberate hurtful behavior, usually repeated over a period of time, where it is difficult for those bullied to defend themselves. There are three main types of bullying.

  1. It maybe physical (e.g. Hitting, punching, kicking, slapping, pinching, throwing things at the student), 2. Verbal (e.g. Racist, or homographobic remarks, name calling, graffiti, threats, abusive text messages), 3. Emotional (e.g. Tormenting, ridiculing, humiliating, ignoring, isolating from the group) or sexual (e.g. Unwanted physical contact or abusive comment).

Neglect – occurs when an adults fails to meet the young person basic physical and/or psychological needs, to an extent that is likelyto result in serious impairment of the child’s health or development. For example, failing to provide adequate food, clothing and shelter, failing to protect from physical harm or danger, or failing to ensure access to appropriate care or treatment.

Signs of Abuse:

  1. Unexplained or suspicious injuries such as bruise, cuts or burns, particularly if situated on part of the body not normally prone to such injury.
  2. An injury for which an explanation seems inconsistent.
  3. The young person describes what appears to be an abusive act involving them.
  4. Another young person or adult expresses about the welfare of a young person.
  5. Unexplained changes of a young person’s behavior e.g. becoming very upset, quiet withdrawn or displaying sudden outburst of temper.
  6. Distrust of adults, particularly those whom a close relationship would normally be expected.
  7. Difficult in making friends.
  8. Being prevented by socializing with others.
  9. Displaying variants in eating patterns including over eating or loss of appetite.
  10. Becoming increasing dirty unkept.
  11. Losing weight for no apparent reason.

Signs of Bullying:

  1. Behavioral changes such as reduce concentration and/or becoming withdrawn, clingy, depressed, and tearful, emotionally up and down reluctant to go training or competitions.
  2. An unexplained drop off in performance
  3. Physical signs such as stomach ache, headaches, difficulty in sleeping, bed wetting, scratching and bruising, damaged clothes.
  4. A shortage of money or frequent loss of possessions.

Interventions/Policies/Code of Conduct Interventions:

  1. Creation board signage’s on the rights of every child based on P.D. No. 603 for public awareness to be posted on conspicuous place of the school/barangay.
  2. Conduct seminar/workshop on the rights of a child and responsible parenthood to all the parents of Aida B. Gonzales Elementary School for their own welfare and awareness.
  3. Integrate small group session/discussion on positive peer relationship among pupils in different subject areas.
  4. Call the attention of the Barangay Officials in maintaining safety and security.
  5. Conduct of spiritual class once a week.

Policies:

  1. No saying of foul or vulgar and bad words with peers.
  2. Avoid exaggerated physical contacts with peers.
  3. A pupil especially on the higher grade level shall not intimidate, harass, and bully other pupils through words and actions.
  4. Go to school regularly to decrease the number of absenteeism cases.
  5. School personnel work in an open environment (e.g. avoiding private or unobserved situations and encouraging open communication)
  6. School shall promote the health of pupils thus junk foods are strictly banded in the school canteen.
