·  September 28-November 6

develop self-advocacy and leadership skills, and understand the

importance of emotions, personal integrity and resiliency.

Grades KDG, 1 and 2: Collaborative enrichment

During these sessions, the GE teacher goes in to each classroom to teach an enrichment lesson. The focus in KDG is on thinking skills and in grade 1 the focus is on word usage. The focus in grade 2 is on word usage, creativity and real world math problems.

GE Identification Information

Students are identified for gifted education services based on the CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) and the NWEA/MAP assessment. Last April families of students who took the CogAT test in January received placement information based on CogAT data. This fall GE teachers will also look at MAP scores to determine if students are eligible for placement into needs based classes. If you have any questions, please email your GE teacher listed above.

Do you want to learn more about what it means to be “gifted?” Would you like to meet and connect with other parents of gifted children? Our school district will now be offering parent support for students participating in gifted education needs based classes. There will be meetings throughout the year – see dates and topics below. These sessions will be facilitated by several of our #279 Gifted Education Teachers. All meetings will be held at Oak View Elementary in the media center and will be from 6:30-7:30 pm. Watch for more info to come!
