Standard/vitreous floaters
Because of the numerous e-mails I receive regarding the Nd-YAG laser treatment of vitreous floaters, I would like to clearly define the procedure.
1. The paper published in the "bulletin belge d'ophtalmologie": T.Van Dorselaer, F.Van de Velde, M.J.Tassignon : Eligibility criteria for Nd-YAG laser treatment of high symptomatic vitreous floaters. Bull.Soc.belge.Ophtalmol., 280, 15-22, 2001, is added in attachment. All details and technical aspects of the treatment are described in this paper.
The Nd-YAG laser is the Nanolas (a nanosecond YAG laser).
2. Ask your ophthalmologist to read this paper carefully and to examine your vitreous keeping the eligibility criteria for treatment with Nd-YAG laser in mind.
ONLY PATIENTS REFERRED BY AN OPHTHALMOLOGIST WILL BE GIVEN AN OPPOINTMENT
3. The treatment is ambulatory.
The cost of the treatment is defined by the Belgian medical care institute (RIZIV) consisting of :
- consultation + biomicroscopy + IOD :

If you want to be treated as a private patient a supplement of 100% will be added.
4. Post-operative follow-up can be taken in charge by your referring ophthalmologist.
5. Retreatment is needed in a certain number of cases and can be scheduled at the earliest 5 weeks after the previous treatment.
The cost is reduced to 34,55 Euro (+100% for a private patient).
In case a second treatment is needed six months after the previous one, the full amount of 258,79 Euro will be charged again (+100% for a private patient).
6. To make an appointment please call 00 32 3 821 3556 or 00 32 3 821 4701. You will be in contact with the nurses of the department of ophthalmology. Specify that your request concerns an appointment for floater pathology. The complementary exams can then be scheduled properly.
