Introduction of Guests
Meredith Benedict - DHS alumni, class of 2015 - presented a fundraiser idea called March-a-thon. The basic premise would be that band students take home pledge sheets to raise money for organization and DBOB advertises the event heavily throughout the community; on the chosen date in the fall, the marching band (and perhaps the middle school band members) would march on a pre-planned route through the city stopping to play a song for anyone along the route that makes a donation of X amount. Booster members would carry empty milk jugs to collect the funds. Eastern Michigan University band sorority/fraternity was able to raise enough money in one event to replace the entire EMU Marching Band drumline’s drum sets.
Secretary’s Report
Motion to accept the minutes: Bob Hathaway; seconded by Kevin Skellenger; all in favor.
Treasurer’s Report
Sara stated the Century fundraiser came in at the necessary budgetary requirements. DBOB paid for the band building, as the school completed their obligations. Motion to accept the treasurer’s report: Bob Hathaway; seconded by Kevin Skellenger; all in favor.
Directors’ Reports
Mrs. McMartin– Nothing the report
Mr. Bronson– There is a DMS orchestra concert tonight. Last Tuesday the DMS band concert we well. Solo & Ensemble Festival will be held in North Branch on December 2nd; he is sending 34 students in 22 events and Mr. Martilla is sending 8 students in 5 events.
Mr. Schuster– Thanks for an amazing marching band season and awards night. There will be a band and orchestra concert on December 14th. The FIM will be hosting a joint concert with chamber strings on December 8th. MSBOA District Festival is next, probably in Swartz Creek. The marching band will play at a Firebirds hockey game on Saturday, January 6th. Spirit Cup will be in late winter. We still need to choose a Broadway show for the trip. In January, he’d like DBOB to host a marching band booster get-together to thank everyone for helping during the season.
Mr. Marttila – The DMS orchestra concert went well tonight.
Committee Reports
Awards – Marching band awards were last night; they went great.
Fundraising –
Michigan Renaissance Festival - still waiting on money. Told 30 days, now looking at December 1st.
Yankee Candles - done There was $6,209 in physical orders, not counting online orders. The truck should be delivering at the band building.
Holiday greens - Are due on the 15th, delivery will be November 27th
Other fundraisers - Hungry Howie’s “Dough-raiser” pizza coupon kits. Lindsey will ask the local store if they will do it.
Lead Chaperons – There were 38 parents that signed up for the band/orch trip to NYC in the spring, several dropped and/or didn’t turn in a payment or the required paperwork. Only 16 people paid the initial payment and turned in the required paperwork per the chaperon agreement. The cap for chaperons is 16 people.
Hauling/Maintenance – Jason Benedict and Jay Morris tightened a couple tires on the new trailer after the “break-in” period. A trailer design would be a good project for next year. Perhaps hold a design competition among band/orch students? Do it after the Christmas break.
Concessions/Meals – Jessica Eckel would like to continue serving meals for the marching band next year.
MSBOA – no report. DHS will not be hosting MSBOA District Festival this school year.
Musicathon – May 19th.
Souvenirs – We need a new chairperson. Stephani Verdier may take over.
Uniforms – There is no report. Jen and Janine will talk to Terri and Cindy about their future plans with the uniforms. Large fans for the uniform room need to be priced out. Put wet weather instructions in the uniforms room and Mr. Schuster’s office.
Volunteer Coordinator – no report
Old Business
Building update - Phil Thom called in the stone order for the building driveway. TRying to find a good time and weather to level sand and spread the stone. Call and see how much it would cost L&M to do it for us.
Officer Elections – elections for President and Secretary (2 year terms) will be held in the spring. Nominations should be submitted in March, elections will be held in April.
New Business
Does DBOB want to invest in a DBOB table banner? Yes. Jessica Eckel makes a motion to purchase a table banner; Sara Eisenman seconds the motion.
Bob asked about making a plan for the usability of the building. See what Mr. Schuster’s needs are; lighting/electrical needs. Solar? Generator?
Adjournment
Bob Hathaway made a motion to adjourn at 8:17pm; John Collins seconded the motion; all in favor.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 12th at 7pm in the AMR.
