START Memory Lane

Delegate Application

START is taking you to the days of Sunday morning cartoons, classic Disney and Pixar movies, and DUNKAROOS! We’re getting pretty nostalgic already, and we’re inviting you to join us! Calling out to all Delegates, we need your skills at this year’s START conference. So make your way to Turner Fenton Secondary School on December 2nd-3rd and attend START MEMORY LANE!

START (Students: The Active Risk Takers) is a fantastic one-of-a-kind conference held in the Peel region every year for high school students. It is a dynamic two-day experience where you'll meet fantastic people, learn useful leadership skills, and have a whole ton of fun! In short, this is one of those times when you get to kick back, relax, learn, and have an awesome time!

What is START?

Going into its 19th conference, START continues to be run by students, for students. During these two exciting days of the conference, Delegates will listen and learn from informative and inspiring guest speakers as well as their peers, enjoy a wicked dance, participate in eye-opening discussions with fellow students, learn about leadership opportunities in their community, make lots of new friends, participate in great group activities and all while having the time of their lives! To top it all off, Delegates will receive a t-shirt and a special Delegate package; we will provide all meals and snacks (and trust us, the food is awesome!).

Who can go to START?

If you are a high school student in the Region of Peel, then you are eligible to be a Delegate at the START Conference. We welcome all students, from grades 9-12. We especially encourage grade 9-11 students with little conference experience to apply as Delegates so that they can continue attending the START leadership conference for years to come and continue building up their leadership abilities.

When is the Conference?

Mark December 2nd - 3rd, 2016 on your calendar! The conference will be held at Turner Fenton Secondary School. Delegates will not have to miss school on the 2nd! Registration occurs from 3:30-4:45 pm on Friday, December 2nd. Delegates must be picked up by their parents at 8:45 PM on Saturday night (December 3rd, 2016).

Fees:

There is a $60 fee for all delegates, which will cover all meals and snacks, a t-shirt, manual, and all conference activities. Turner Fenton students must pay through cashless schools. Students from other schools must pay by cash. All fees must be paid when your application is handed in. If you are not accepted, your cash will be refunded.

Although students organize START, it is fully supervised by Peel teachers, and there will also be a student security team on duty at all times. The student teacher ratio is about 20:1 during the day and 10:1 at night. Delegates that come from schools other than Turner Fenton must bring a teacher to help supervise the conference. Contact us by email for more information. All doors will remain locked, and the entire conference will take place inside of the South Hall Campus. Safety is of primary importance to us. This year we are also looking to raise non-perishable food items in order to help families in need and we request that you bring at least one non-perishable food item with you on the day of conference.

Attached to this letter is a registration form, a list of what you will need to bring to conference, and an outline of our conference rules. To register fill out the General Information page, and the Questionnaire and drop off to the Contact Room or Room 306, both of which are in the South building. If you do not attend Turner Fenton you may either drop it off to the school or email the forms to . If you have any questions please email us.

Thank You,

Your 2016 START Conference Chairs
