Historical Fashion Influences

Project Objectives

1. Identify historical events that have influenced fashion in the 20th century.

2. Identify the impact of society on fashion, and fashion’s impact on society.

3. Explain psychological influences on fashion.

4. Identify global influences on fashion.

5. Prepare oral presentation, power point and timeline using computer applications.

6. Share knowledge and information with others.

Directions

1. Work in groups of 2 to research the assigned fashion period. You will draw a decade from a hat.

2. Gather information that supports the influence on the fashion period, using the data sheet provided (you may make copies for more room). Information should AT LEAST include:

Ø  Historical events of the period

o  wars

o  political events and celebrities

o  government legislations (laws)

o  technology (inventions, e.g.)

o  economics

Ø  Societal and psychological events of the period

o  social groups (royalty, teens, ethnic groups, etc.)

o  entertainment: music, movie celebs

o  media: TV, movies, magazines, advertisements

o  art

o  designers

Ø  Global events

o  economics

o  war

o  technology

o  scientific discoveries (textiles, fabrics, techniques)

o  inventions

3. Prepare a power point oral presentation to share with the class. Include black and white notes pages print-out.

4. Create cut-outs illustrating events and fashions to be placed on a timeline. Include illustrations and text to show the three areas given above.

5. You will turn in black and white copy of notes pages (one copy per group)
