Richie Gustin Wins IMCA Super Nationals at Boone Speedway
Memphis, TN–Richie Gustin collected $5,700 for his victory in the crown jewel of IMCA Modified racing.
The Gustin family name is synonymous with Dirt Modifieds. On Saturday, September 10th, they added to their legacy, as Richie Gustin collected the A-Main victory in the 29th annual IMCA Super Nationals at Boone Speedway in Boone, IA, in front of a standing room only crowd. The win came on the heels of his brother Jimmy’s triumph in the 2010 running of the event. This year’s edition of the yearly six day contest attracted 241 IMCA Modifieds from 24 states and Canada, each of which were vying for a position in Saturday’s culminating 33 car starting grid. Gustin of Gilman, IA, took a qualifying feature win on Wednesday, earning him the pole for Saturday’s main event. He then led every circuit of the 40-lap feature en route to a $5,700 payday. Gustin jumped to the lead early from the traditional three-wide start, and held off a variety of competitors on restarts before motoring away from the field just as he had in preliminary events throughout the week.
A record total of 843 cars in six divisions took to the track during the weeklong event, with COMP Cams® providing a $500 bonus to Northern SportMod main event winner, Scott Davis.
