Amanda Dietlin, Vice President of Academic Affairs, called the Senate meeting of the 2015-2016 Associated Students of Northern Arizona University Senate to order at4:04pm in the Havasupai Room A & B of the University Union.

Motion: Senator Moore-Sharp moves to approve last week’s minutes.

Call to the Audience:
- Sustainable Landscape Maintenance Project
Hi, I am here today speaking on behalf of the Sustainable Landscape Maintenance Project. The herbicides used on the landscaping here on campus contain hurtful chemicals not only to the environment for everyone else. For our project we have implementedherbicide free alternatives and higher mowing heights, along with other things to help us become more sustainable. After that they thought it was time to turn over funding to NAU administration. We are taking care of the environment and think that all parts of NAU should be involved. We proposed to NAU admin to pick up the funding and at the time ASNAU said they would support it. All we are asking is tocontinue to keep your support. Thank you.
Chair Dietlin:For all of the clubs and organizations here today how this works is when I call your name you come up to the podium. Club recognition state the nature of your organization, how many members are interest and what you plan to do in the future. Funding come up and state who you are, why you are asking for funding, what the funding will cover and how this will impact the college and the students here.

Item A-Club Recognition: Fellowship of Christian Athletes
Motion: Senator Moore-Sharp moves to vote on Item A- Club Recognition: Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Discussion:Mark: I am speaking on behalf of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. To give you short history on the club, we are an international non-profit Christian sports ministry. We were founded in Kansas City around 1954. It expanded has expanded its reach to over 47 countries. We helped the campus in the past with their athletes. We have leadersin softball soccer volleyball and swim and dive. We don’t have something like this at the school yet and it us a demographic that is not being filled.
Senator Moore-Sharp: How many members do you have interested?
Mark:10-15 members so far. We have had a few leaders that have had to transfer so we are looking for more. We are in a state of rebranding/ revamping so that’s why I took over the duties of president.

Discussion:So I hope to be the vice president of this club if it approved. The club is to share a common interest of cars. We will be having activities and holding meetings but we don’t have an official organization on NAU. We want to make friends that share common interest and stuff. We don’t have funding for anything yet, but in the future hopefully.
Senator Moore-Sharp: How many people do you have interested?
Presenter:10 currently, but around 25 soon once the club is passed. All the members are my friends but I don’t want to make it a specific on who can join.
Senator Anderson: Hosting events for charities?
Presenter: We hosted events for outside of campus like what is the best looking car and for every participant we have we give the money to charity.

Item C-Club Recognition: Phi Alpha National Honor Society for Social Work
Motion: Senator Anderson moves to vote on Item C- Club Recognition: Phi Alpha National Honor Society for Social Work

Discussion: I am the president of the honor society, if it was approved. Therewere 6 of us that went to the faculty to talk about creating this club because social work doesn’t have an honor society. After that we talked to the students and we thought it was something important to have. We chose Phi Alpha, because it is the biggest in the nation and it’s a lifetime membership and one time due. The organization will help with scholarships for grad school. We chose a 3.5 GPA for members to be accepted; we thought this to be best because it is an honor society and it needs to base on academics and stuff. We are not big community service club, but more of a research based. We also have our first project,if you have heard of point and time, Flagstaff does a count of the homeless people and we will be working with them.

Discussion:Hi I am Nicole. Our purpose is to provide NAUstudent to practice 2-3 times a week and complete. In the state of Arizona we are division 1 and we think that this club would allow for anyone with different swimming level to do the sport they love.
Senator Roos: Do you have a coach?
Nicole: Yes, we havea few that are interested.

Item E- SB 28-30: NAU Percussion Society
Motion: Senator Ridge moves to vote on Item E– SB 28-30: NAU Percussion Society

Discussion:I am the president. We are asking for funding for students to travel to the conference next Wednesday. The funding is for $1036 that for hotel, flight for three students and we have 2 grad students but they aren’t being included. It is a four-day conference including master classes taught by world-class professionals. It is a very wide variety of information and lessons and the three of us have different interests and we hope to bring back information for our club members and NAU music studies. This is a once in a lifetime conference.

Discussion: Hi I am Erica. We are requesting funding for regionals. We have won all of our games this season. We are moving on to national but need regionals to be funded so that we have enough money to pay for nationals.
Senator Moore-Sharp: Every game?
Erica: Every game this season and got abid to nationals. We have 15 players and coach that we are asking funding for.

Discussion: Hi, I am the president of our club and we are asking for money to have a guest speaker. Sam Pilafian is coming here to have we are having a master class taught by him. He is also going to be helping out with NAU Low Brass Day where we will go to high schools in Flagstaff and match up and learn the instrument with them.
Senator Carr: Are we allowed to pay for someone’s salary?
Senator Anderson: That was asked in appropriations and Amanda said yes.

Item H- Resolution 28-1: Indigenous People’s Day

Discussion:Senator Rosic: Senator Nunnally and I wrote the resolution for the day. We sent it out last week in the email with all the information. The signatures are: Senator Nunnally, Rosic, Ridge, Carr, Beghtol, Anderson, Mathew, Graham, Roos, and Davis. What this resolution entails is recognized for the day. We thought it was important for NAU to celebrate it, because of the reasons talked about last week.

Item I-By-Law Change: VPSA Addition of Duties
Motion: Senator Sowerwine moves to vote on Item I- By-Law Change: VPSA Addition of Duties
Second: Senator Beghtol
Discussion:Senator Carr: The change is to create the diversity committee under the VPSA, so it is an established committee for future years and that it will be under her position.
Senator Moore-Sharp: Didn’t Amanda say that we are going to be adding it wherever needed in the by-laws?
Senator Carr: Yes.
Vote: Unanimous, Item I- By-Law Change: VPSA Addition of Duties has been approved
Chair Dietlin: For the clubs and organizations here you are welcome to leave at this time; we are going into staff reports. So if you have place to be and people to see, we will let you leave.
Senator Carr:For the sustainable thing, were we signing something or what did she want us to do?
Chair Dietlin: What they are doing or asking for is for ASNAU to write an endorsement letter. They really just want our want our support. It is in the resolution that was passed last year that we endorsed, so they just want continued support fromus.
Senator Carr: Do we have to do anything?
Chair Dietlin: I will take to Ali, but I think that we will be drafting it and then bringing it to senate.

- Chair Dietlin: Since She is not here I believe she will be sending out an email with her report.
b. Vice President of Student Affairs- Allison Kelley
- The last tailgate November 14th. So if you haven’t work all three tailgates you need to signup for this one. The signups will be office next week. This is the game we will be having bobble heads. I have been working with athletics for some basketball game next semester where we will be handing out breaded beanies. They are really cute and you guys will be getting one. Next week, we have the Kiss My Axe design completion going on and anystudent can turn in a design. There are a few guideline and the designs are due November13th. If you know anyone who wants to design, let him or her know about it. It would be really cool to have 6000 t-shirts with your design on it. After we get the submissions we will send it out for students to vote on. Diversity committees talked about the sustainable position. November 14th- November 23rdwill be applications andfrom there we will do interviews and hire the week before reading week. Diversity directorapplications are due on Tuesday at 5pm. Diversity committeeelected Stefan as the chair and we are drafting the guidelines next week. We also have safe zone training next week on Tuesday. November 13this the very last one of the semester. Make sure you register online before hand.
C. Vice President of Academic Affairs- Amanda Dietlin
- You all got new copies of by-laws and constitution. Alcohol, tobacco and other drugs needs a preventative. They have meetingsin the HLC on Wednesdays from 9-10:30 am. Is anyone available?
Senator Beghtol: Is it every week.
Chair Dietlin: No
Senator Ridge: Would December2nd be the last one?
Chair Dietlin:Yes. I will send out an email for all senate and staff. Tobacco free task force is onWednesday from 11:30-12:30 and I will send that out in an email as well. This week’s minute madness winner isAlyssa and Ashley it still owe you yours. You can come and steal one from my office. I am working on getting everything done. A new senate bill template, so it will be quicker to write bills. Other than that my week was chill.
D. Vice President of Government Affairs – Vanessa Pomeroy
- As you know it is Its On Us week and the student body has been really grateful so far of all the work we have done. Please continue to share the posts and come to know you rights tonight and the slice of safety tomorrow. I am disheartened with the turnout, other than Grace, Drake,Ali, my team and our advisors no else has come. Please, please come to the events. For the pledges, it has been very successful and we have passed out most of the shirts. At the end tomorrow we will take a pic of all the pledges and count them then post it online. Also I have a reschedule bystander training to November22ndfrom 12-2pm. If you have a conflict, come talk to me and we will discuss. I am working on everything for the UofA ABOR at the end of the month.

- On Tuesday at meeting we talked about our event that is tonight from 7-9 tonight. We will have hot chocolate and cookies all you have to do is bringyourself and a blanket. We went down to headquarters and made signs for it. Our team is working on the mugs we talked about lastmeeting. We will have our NSG t-shirt deigns out soon.

- Allison went over most of it. We are wondering if the petition should be online or other wise. I meet with LGBTQ commission and services. I will be sending it to the committee for finalapproval.

Advisor Reports (Cindy Anderson and Kristine Heflin)
Cindy Anderson— I want to complement governmental affairs team for all their hard work. Struck and wonder how the senate and staff can become more engaged. Remember, students come to their friends first to and ask where they should go. We are working on the letter for the umbrella of sexual assault and if you know someone should know their options.
Senator Moore-Sharp: For Its On Us week, I was wondering what happens when a report it is made and who is it through.
Cindy: It is the reporting person; they are the driver of where they want to take it. They are going to engage witness protection in it. We learned last night there are two places that are not mandatory reporters. They are trying to restore choice to the individual in which it has been taken. They want to take away from sexual orientation because that doesn’t matter.
Senator Moore-Sharp: If it was like the university handling the incident, do they collect evidence and build their case? The victim could pursue action for sufficientevidence?
Cindy: Reports often come after evidence is available. Most people ask and toclarify, the question if it happens off campus can you come to campus and report it. Yes.
