Preparing for Winter

From Mark Poeller, Construction & Maintenance Supervisor

1.  Check your snow removal equipment.

2.  Close storm windows and lock inside windows to tighten and seal them.

3.  Reverse the ceiling fan to help even out the heat in the rooms.

4.  Check the bottom of the outside door to make sure the door sweeps are good. This will lower the draft in the house.

5.  Shut off the outside water faucet from the inside so they don’t freeze and brake.

6.  Make sure you have ice melt on hand.

7.  Make sure the gutter downspouts are clean to stop ice from backing up on the roof.

8.  Make sure you have some warm blankets and flash lights and extra food on hand just in case you get snowed in and/or loose the power.
