Summary

This unit enables candidates to acquire and demonstrate the skills required for coaching individual learners. It also allows the candidate to understand the processes and key stages of coaching individuals.

At each stage of the process the client’s own needs and preferences must be taken into account.

Negotiation with the client will be ongoing throughout.

Who this unit is aimed at

Candidates would be expected to be working or undertaking a work experience placement within an organisation that helps people with disabilities or those who are socially excluded make the transition into employment.

Principles of good practice

The support provided to the individual is in keeping with their needs and aspirations.

Relationship to other units

This unit links with Unit D3BA11 Planning and Securing Jobs – Supported Employment and with B7AX04 (O1) Foster Peoples Equality, Diversity and Rights

Place in the Framework

This unit occurs in the following qualification:

Scottish Progression Award (SPA) in Supported Employment, which in turn provides progression to a full SVQ in Care at Level 2 or Level 3 or SVQ Promoting Independence level 3.

This unit is also contained in SVQ Training and Development level 3.

Evidence Requirements for this unit

You must provide your assessor with evidence for all the Performance Criteria and all aspects of Range and Knowledge. The evidence must be provided in the following ways, taking account of any Special Considerations which may be noted below:

Element 1

All evidence must be gathered in workplace conditions:

  • Coaching learners
  • Identify factors inhibiting learning

Element 2

All evidence must be gathered in workplace conditions:

  • Notes or explanation on the identification of opportunities for learners to apply their learning.
  • Rationale for opportunities and resources used
  • Notes or an explanation of information given to learners.

Special Considerations

Element 1

The candidate should provide evidence of coaching at least 2 different learners, 1 of which should be observed.

Simulation would not normally be considered appropriate for this element

Element 2

The candidate should provide evidence of assisting at least 2 different learners to apply their learning.
