Job Title: General Manager (initial 3 month contract with possibility of extension).
Hoxton Hall is looking for an experienced strategic administration focused General Manager to oversee the running of the core of the organisation. Who has a commitment to develop the infrastructure, ensuring it is fit for purpose, throughout substantial growth and change including £2.5m of capital development, expansion of creative models and development of education heritage projects and programming strategy. Ideal candidate will have a passion for venue management and fundraising experience, alongside a natural ability to deal with detail and strategy. You will be a passionate planner, problem solver and policy implementer, with a level head and plenty of experience of, leading a dynamic and changing organisation.
Reporting to: Hoxton Hall Artistic Director
Direct Reports: Theatre Manager, Finance Manager and bookkeeper, Office and Communications Co-ordinator, Facilities Co-ordinator.
Terms:
Salary£32k PA, pro rata (initial 3 month contract with possible extension)
Work hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. (Full time)
Over time / TOIL: Hoxton Hall does not pay overtime but operates a time off in lieu policy
(agreed with line manager and taken within 3 weeks of earning the
time off).

Purpose of the Role
This senior management role reports to and works closely with Hoxton Hall Artistic Director to provide essential continuity, management and support to the core functions and development of the organisation, buildings and staff at this exciting time of expansion and development.
The General Manager will take responsibility for overseeing a joined up approach to achieving the organisational business plan, ensuring all project areas maximise resources and work together effectively to meet Hoxton Hall’s objectives.
Job Description
- Management Accounts and Financial Processes – Working with a qualified Finance Manager you will be responsible for financial processes throughout the organisation, including budgets and actual reporting and working with HHAD to prepare accounts for management and fundraising use and board presentation. Work with budget holders to ensure appropriate controls and budgets reflect activity, while achieving contribution to core costs and avoiding overspend. Directly manage core operational and administration budgets and contracts including IT, staff, and maintenance and office functions.
- Operations and Administration – Overseeing the core admin and infrastructure of the group and implementation of new systems to effectively manage resources, operations and business plan work streams. Ensuring IT systems are fit for purpose and operational, as well as providing day to day troubleshooting.
- Human Resources Management and Compliance –Support the overall management of performance, oversee and make recommendations to structural changes and recruitment process, lead on contract issue and inductions. Overseeing and authorising pay roll and carrying out the disciplinary process as needed. Hoxton Hall has a subscription to an excellent HR advisory service, so a practical working knowledge of HR processes is more important than of detailed legislation.
- Building and Operational Management – Overseeing the budgets, plans, procurement and confirming contracts for routine venue management, repair and maintenance, in line with legal, licensing and health and safety standards to ensure our buildings are compliant and fit for purpose, with the support of the staff team.
- Company Secretary, Board Support and Managing Hoxton Works Board – Act as Company Secretary for both the charity and the company, overseeing legal administration for both. Provide organisational and administrative support to the Board.
- Communications and Marketing – oversee the development of the communications strategy and ensure that promotional materials and digital platform are in line with organisational message, of good quality and on budget.
- Policy development and Implementation – ensuring key policies are legally compliant, and fully implemented throughout the group. Including being the lead on Health and Safety (as H&S officer) and designated premises supervisor.
General/Day to day Responsibilities:
HR, Pay Roll and Staff Management
- Organise the management of all HR policies and procedures at Hoxton Hall.
- Review and authorise monthly payroll approval process, ensuring contract compliance and correct and timely payment of staff and freelancers.
- Review staff information and processes including training requirements, policies, sickness, holiday and toil policies recommend changes to HHAD.
Financial and Monitoring Responsibilities
- Work with the HHAD and Finance Manager to set (annually) and monitor (monthly) project and overall department budgets. Take the lead on preparing and presenting management accounts to HHAD, subcommittees and board. Review financial processes with Treasurer where appropriate, provide recommendations and produce accurate management accounts for reporting at management meetings and board meetings.
- Support the Hoxton Hall annual audit process.
- Oversee and directly manage the maintenance and operational budgets for the group.
Policy Development and Implementation
- Manage and implement health and safety and security policy as the Healthy and Safety Officer at Hoxton Hall. Ensure that all activities and the centre itself is risk assessed and appropriately mitigated.
- Review all existing policies, recommend new and best practice and implement, including Equal Opportunities policy and Equalities Act compliance, IT and email policy and all others.
Other Responsibilities
- Carrying out own time planning and administration, including managing relevant aspects of budget, as agreed with the HHAD and Finance Manager.
- Be a key holder for Hoxton Hall buildings and the take on the responsibility which comes with this.
- Attend board meetings, management meetings and away days as required (often outside of office hours).
- Provide strategic advice and support to HHAD, organisation and board, contributing to business plans and capital fundraising where required.
- Attending regular meetings with staff members, external networks and partnership meetings.
- Support the general administration of the organisation as required.
