Job title: Event Manager (Town & Gown 10K series) – one year contract

Main purpose To manage the charity’s bespoke 10K race event series, Town & Gown 10K, working closely with the Challenge Events Manager to achieve agreed event targets and objectives.

The main focus will be:

·  Delivery of bespoke 10K race events in Cambridge and Oxford

·  Implementation of the event marketing plans to recruit participants

·  Creation of an excellent race day experience

·  Building relationships with participants and their supporters to maximise income

·  Supporting the Challenge Events Manager in their development of the Town & Gown 10K series.

Key areas of responsibility:

·  Full project management of two key Town & Gown events: Cambridge in October 2015 and Oxford in May 2016, undertaking all logistics, Race Committee liaison, participant and corporate recruitment; and the race day experience for participants, media, corporate participants/sponsors and spectators.

·  Implementation of event marketing plans to promote the Town & Gown 10K events, working with designers to produce support materials, adverts; communication with past participants, recruit new participants via University colleges and local media, mailings and face to face (flyers, stands, other local event promotion etc).

·  Manage the Town and Gown 10k website, blog and social media presence. Updating all content, making it interactive and informative and implementing an email schedule to send to all participants updating them on the event and Muscular Dystrophy UK.

·  Support the Challenge Events Manager in developing the series: researching prospective cities which match the Town and Gown specifications, contacting local authorities to gain permission for the proposed route and building relations with local running clubs, universities and colleges.

·  Develop fundraising relationships with Town & Gown 10K participants, offering advice, support and encouragement; monitor their financial performance.

·  Ensure up-to-date computerised and manual records are kept relating to existing and potential event participants with responsibility of monitoring their sponsorship totals and thanking.

·  Play an active role in the life and development of the team, the Fundraising directorate and the charity as a whole.

·  To handle any other duties as defined by the Head of Events.

·  Initiative in maintaining good relationships with other staff within the charity to assist in joint working, strengthen communication, solve problems and to ensure that the charity’s objectives are met.

·  Initiative in maintaining a high level of sensitivity and tact when liaising directly with people affected by muscular dystrophy.

Event Manager (Town & Gown 10K series) – one year contract

1 Experience

·  A minimum of two years experience of successful Challenge Events organisation

(charity, voluntary or commercial sector experience considered / charity events

experience preferred)

·  Experience of using a database (Raiser’s Edge preferred)

2 Skills

·  Excellent project management and organisation skills

·  Strong communication skills to deal effectively in person and by telephone with

a wide range of people, including commercial suppliers, in a friendly

and highly professional manner

·  Ability to network and create connections with a range of influencers

Hours: 35 per week

Flexible approach to working hours and willingness to work outside normal

office hours when necessary (time off in lieu will be provided)

Willingness to travel – particularly to Oxford and Cambridge
