POSITION: EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN

I.Reports to System Engineer

II.SalaryRanges: H – 17 to H – 23

Upon appointment to Equipment Technician, there will be a 6- month probationary period, in accordance with Policy 608.

III. Supervisory responsibility: None

IV.Required: Have a physical as required by a General Policy 606 and be subject to random drug testing.

V.POSITION INFORMATION

A. EDUCATION

1.Minimum: High school diploma or GED plus 96 hours of basic electricity theory.

2.Desired: Completion of at least one course in basic electric meter training (U of W course or its equal) plus actual hands-on experience.

B. EXPERIENCE

1.Minimum: Current experience as a journeyman electrician to be able to safely work secondary voltages. In addition, a good understanding of both AC and DC electrical theory.

2.Desired: Knowledge of the operation, function and maintenance of special utility line equipment, including revenue meters.

C.WORKING CONDITIONS

1.Normal: Frequent work outdoors in all weather: system wide travel will be required with the possibility of overnight stay. Attendance will be required for training and other meetings, which may entail travel by airplane or other commercial modes of transportation.

2.Worst Case: Work may be required in blizzard conditions or in other emergency situations.

1.Full physical mobility is required.

E.VISUAL DEMANDS

1.Normal vision is required although the use of corrective lenses is acceptable.

F.CONTACT WITH OTHERS

1.Regular duties will require daily contact with other employees and occasionally members.

2.Attendance at seminars and meetings will require occasional association with others in the profession.

G.JOB HAZARDS

1. Normal: Working around live voltages up to 138 Kilo-volts, lifting andmoving heavy equipment, both in the field and in the shop, exposure to varying concentrations of PolychlorinatedBiphenyl (PCB’s).

H.LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

1.Valid Commercial Drivers License, with air brake and Hazardous Material endorsements, or the ability to obtain one.

2.Licensed by the State of Idaho as a Journeyman Electrician (desirable but optional). Licensing or certification in another state is acceptable if transferable to Idaho.

I.RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS

1.Working with other employees, both in the administrative group and in the field personnel group. This position will require daily contact and communications with almost all employees, and cooperative members.

VI.DUTIES

A.Test and maintain watt hour meters.

1.Installs the programs necessary for each of the meter types.

2:Maintain and operate the meter reading system (TWACS by Aclara).

3: Maintain and manage adequate meter and necessary equipment inventory.

B.Test and maintain line reclosers, regulators, transformers and other system equipment. Maintain appropriate equipment

records.

C.Filter and/or replace oil in equipment and maintain records of test performed and the results obtained.

D.Collects and records substation data.

E.Checks substations visually and electrically using thermal imaging to identify operational and structural problems.

F.Checks incoming equipment requiring maintenance or repair for PCB’s, assuring proper records are maintained.

G.Assists with trouble calls, either primary or secondary voltage equipment as requested by on-call personnel, or as requested by his supervisor.

H.Watches call after hours every third week more or less.

I.All other duties as required.

VII.AUTHORITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY

The Equipment Technician shall have full authority to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position in conformity with established policies and procedures.

He/She should remember that he/she is accountable to his/her supervisor and the management of the Cooperative for the efficient performance of these responsibilities and that, although some of the responsibilities may be delegated or assigned to another person, the accountability cannot be.

He/She is encouraged to use initiative and judgment in making decisions, remembering that the Cooperative’s best interests can be affected by his/her actions. He/She should feel free to make suggestions for the improvement of operations and efficiency.

He/She shall secure approval of the Operations Manager in making decisions when policies are not clear or adequate, or require interpretation.
