TEFLON PROTECTOR

How does protector work?Teflon protectors are fluoro chemical treatments that provide an effective protective treatment, by surrounding each individual carpet fiber with an invisible shield. DuPont Teflon improves the fibers' resistance to oil and water-based stains, as well as soiling from everyday use.

How long does the protection last?Under "normal" conditions and with reasonable care, DuPont Teflon will provide long lasting benefits. DuPont research has shown that Teflon protector is very durable to foot traffic. However, performance will diminish somewhat over time. For optimal soil and stain protection, DuPont recommends that Teflon be reapplied after every hot water extraction.

Why doesn't water "bead up" on carpet treated with protector? Some carpet fibers may not exhibit the beading characteristic typically linked to Teflon. This can be caused by spaces between loosely woven carpet piles. This does not affect the stain and soil resistance of the Teflon application. The liquid can be easily blotted up even if it does not bead up.

Does Teflon protector "waterproof" carpet?Teflon is not intended to be used as a waterproofing agent for carpet. However, it will provide improved resistance to water-based substances.

Does DuPont Teflon protector contain formaldehyde? No, there is no formaldehyde in the carpet and upholstery protector

Is Teflon protector safe for children and pets?Yes, all DuPont products go through extensive testing and have been safely used in homes for more than 20 years.

How often should Teflon be applied to carpets?Even though it provides long lasting benefits, DuPont recommends that Teflon be reapplied after every hot water extraction. Use of professionally applied DuPont Teflon protector enhances fiber and adds to the protection on your carpet.

How should carpet treated with DuPont protector be maintained?Regular vacuuming is essential. Teflon helps keep dry soil and oily residues from sticking to the carpet fibers. This makes vacuuming more efficient. For optimal soil and stain protection, DuPont recommends that protector be reapplied after every hot water extraction. 3M recommends using a reputable professional cleaner.

Are all protectors the same? When properly applied, most fluoro chemical protectors will provide reliable protection. DuPont Teflon and 3m Scotch-guard are considered “Top of the line”

Is my carpet indestructible after being protected? No. Teflon is a durable treatment, but the exact length of time the protection lasts is dependent on the amount of foot traffic, the frequency of spills, and how often the carpet is vacuumed or steam cleaned. No carpet is "bulletproof," but Teflon sure helps with protection from stains!
