Job Purpose
Laboratory Manager to provide all aspects of laboratory maintenance and support in order to facilitate the continuous running of R&D Laboratories at FDBK Wilton site.

· To ensure all equipment maintenance is up to date.
· All preventative maintenance schedules should be planned sufficiently in advance so as to not impact planned project work.
· All equipment calibrations performed prior to expiration dates so as to not impact planned project work.
· Coordinate the schedule of equipment usage within each group to ensure that equipment required to deliver each project is available when required.
· Building maintenance schedules should be planned so as to not impact planned project work.
Principal Accountabilities
· Design and implement the systems and procedures required for the startup and maintenance of the R&D laboratories at Wilton including but not limited to preventative maintenance and servicing of all equipment, IT systems (e.g. equipment alarms setup) and raw materials and consumables management.
· Take ownership of equipment and facility planning resources.
· The job holder will be accountable for the Wilton IT systems and act as liason with Billingham IT department.
· Facilitate positive changes in laboratory systems and procedures by proactively leading initiatives.
· Use experience and problem solving tools to identify potential opportunities for efficiency improvement by removal of waste and variations in processes
· To liaise with external contractors to coordinate the regular preventative maintenance of equipment ensuring that the required schedules are adhered to thus maintaining the equipment warranties and compliance.
· Ensure that all equipment is maintained in a fit for use state. If any equipment breaks down or has issues reported, the job holder must be able to rectify the situation either through direct action or where this is not possible or applicable arrange an external agent to perform repairs.
· Liaise with Wilton Support department to plan any building maintenance including but not limited to roof permits which may impact project work, repair work, planned shut downs of the support services (HVAC, gasses supply, electricity etc.) and do so through coordination with R&D staff to limit the disruption to planned project work.
· Be able to place and release SAP orders to facilitate rapid ordering of project specific items as and when required.
· Provide information to finance to allow pass-through costs to be correctly assigned to customers and actively drive the increase in pass through costings.
· Fully trained in the procedure to issue permits to work and actively monitor permits when in place to ensure compliance to the systems.
· The job holder will be able to construct complex timelines which include interactions between departments to ensure that all aspects of maintenance and support are in place.

· They will be expected to work effectively alone, and be responsible for the delivery of their own work plans but also be able to liaise and coordinate with other members of the R&D teams, support service providers and external agents in order to be able to deliver these work plans.

· Previous SAP experience would be a benefit to the role.
To be fully effective the jobholder should have
· A degree in a relevant discipline or at least 5 years knowledge, understanding and experience of planning and coordination of engineering activities within laboratories or similar environments.
· The job holder will be operating in a highly regulated environment and must be aware of the regulatory background to their work.
· A good understanding of business requirements.
· Knowledge of quality, environment, safety, health and GMP polices.
