Community Engagement Assignment

One important factor that we have identified in student success and persistence at the University of Wyoming is a developed connection to the university and/or to the Laramie community. Accordingly, you will be responsible for investigating, participating in, and reporting on some aspects of the university and Laramie community. The aspects to be investigated include:

o  Laramie Community Activities

o  University of Wyoming Academic Activities

o  University of Wyoming Social Activities

o  Exploration of Other Regional Locations

A list of suggested activities or locations for each of these aspects is included on the next page of the assignment description. Each student will be required to complete at least two (2) of the tasks for the Laramie Community Activities, University Academic Activities, and University Social Activities. Each group will be required to explore at least two (2) Other Regional Locations, none of which can be that student’s or their significant other’s hometown. This means that each student will be responsible for at least 6 events. This project will be conducted in groups of four (4) and culminate with an individual written account and a group presentation.

Requirements for group presentation (1/3 of grade)

The group presentation will be given during the cohort class periods on October 31st and November 7th. This presentation shall be 7-9 minutes in length with each group member providing equal participation. It is recommended that the group should first present the list of group accomplishments and then each group member should describe 2-3 highlights, with activity-specific details from their experiences. PowerPoint presentations will be expected unless otherwise approved by the instructors. The group presentation accounts for 1/3 of the assignment grade.

Requirements for individual written account (2/3 of grade)

Each individual student will need to supply a written account of all events they participated in. You should write at least one paragraph about each activity you accomplished; the paragraph(s) should include both a brief summary of the event as well as a short reflection or analysis of the event. Additionally, you must provide proof of the accomplishment. Acceptable proof includes: physical evidence (i.e. receipt or ticket stub) or photographic evidence of yourself at the location/activity. Photographs should be pasted into the word file of your write-up and not emailed separately to the instructor; physical evidence should be stapled to the hard copy you turn in. The written portion accounts for 2/3 of the assignment grade. The written account for all students is due October 31st.
