Special Meeting

October 21, 2014

Council Members Present:

Call to Order:

Ruth Moyer Elementary School Principal, Matt Haskamp, called the meeting to order at 3:34 p.m.

Adoption of Agenda:

A motion to adopt this month’s agenda was made by Jill Kempf and was seconded by Beckie McGraw.

Approval of Minutes:

A motion to adopt the minutes of the September meeting was made by Beckie McGraw and seconded by Jill Kempf.

Good News Report:

  • We have received the highest designation given to a school for our state achievement. We are a School of Distinction, Distinguished/Progressing School. We are in the 98%.
  • Linda Hockney is back from medical leave. It is good to have her back.

Student Achievement Reports:

We have received the highest designation given to a school. We are a School of Distinction, Distinguished/Progressing School. We are in the 98%.

Planning:

Committee Updates:

  • The Belief Statement Committee has begun meeting. Work is progressing well. They should be finished at their next meeting.
  • The AR committee has been formed and will meet soon.
  • The Technology committee has been formed and will meet as needed.

Budget Review:

There are no major budget issues. The budget is in good shape.

Business:

The Bylaw revisions are finished. Laura Robinson moved to accept Articles 7, 8, 9.

Chris Capal seconded the motion. They were approved. Next month we will begin work to revise our policies.

Discussion Items:

  • Bicycle Riders – The current policy of fourth and fifth graders being allowed to ride bikes to school was addressed. The council feels for safety reasons the policy should stay the same at this time.
  • KED SBDM News – The council reviewed the SBDM newsletter regarding minority elections.
  • Building Project Update – A committee from SFFCC toured our building to confirm the need for our building project. The LPC will convene soon to make a recommendation.
  • SBDM Special Election – A special election is needed to meet the requirement for minority representation on our council. We need to elect a minority parent and another teacher. The parent election is November 3. The teacher needs to be elected by the next council meeting.
