Position Title: Park Maintenance Worker I (Full Time)

Department: Parks and Recreation

Reports to: Parks and Recreation Director

Pay: $13.50/hour

Probation: 180 Days

Work Hours: 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM (may vary with seasonal changes)

Some evenings and weekends as conditions require.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The park maintenance worker is responsible for providing a highly visible function for the township residents – the maintenance and upkeep of the township parks, related grounds and facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination or training and work experience, which indicates possession of the skill, knowledge, and abilities, listed above. The preferred candidate will possess a valid CDL-A Ohio Driver’s License certification, or must be able to obtain in 180 days. An example of an acceptable qualification for this position is:

Training and/or work experience which evidences knowledge of general maintenance, skills, and procedures related to landscaping and park upkeep.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.  Maintenance duties may include, but are not limited to: litter pick up, landscape development and upkeep, cleaning and maintenance of park facilities and public areas, mowing and trimming around park grounds as needed, applying pesticides and fertilizers, shoveling and plowing snow, and assisting with parking and crowd control for special events and programs. Perform mechanical and maintenance work on vehicles and equipment.

2.  Prepares and maintains park exterior and interior facilities for use by performing duties such as cleaning, painting and routine maintenance of common areas, recreational equipment, shelters, and park grounds adjacent to common areas, storage rooms, kitchen areas and restrooms.

3.  Uses and maintains wrenches, pruners, trimmers, brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, blowers, brushes, rollers, shovels, rakes, hammers and other common hand and power tools.

4.  Operates licensed and non-licensed motor vehicles, APVs, snow plows, tractors, mowers, brush hogs, loaders and other heavy equipment. Maintain a current CDL License.

5.  Meets and deals with the public in a professional, helpful and pleasant manner. Acts as a good-will ambassador for Deerfield Township at all times. Maintains a professional, cooperative working relationship with other staff members.

6.  Aids in general public programming and special events as assigned.

7.  Maintains accurate records of tasks performed: including but not limited to: time sheets, vehicle mileage, equipment usage, etc.

8.  Follows Board policies in Employee Handbook. Participates in OSHA programs and maintains safety standards.

9.  Ability to perform adequately with minimal supervision/work independently.

10.  Other duties as assigned.

11.  Assists other departments as the need arises.
