ASSISTANT PLANT OPERATOR

We are currently looking to fill the role of Assistant Plant Operator. Reporting to the Plant Operator, this position is important in the day to day production at the plant. It is the Assistant Plant Operator’s obligation to enforce and follow standard operating procedures and Shaw Resources Policies & Procedures as they pertain to safety and working efficiencies.

As an integral part of our team you will:

  1. Create and maintain a safe workplace for all employees
  2. Quality Assurance- ensuring that production meets or exceeds quality standards. Have a strong quality focus in day to day operation. Committed to increasing customer satisfaction through rigorous QA program and always raises the bar.
  3. Follow and work alongside your crew on a daily and weekly basis according to the shifting needs of the business to meet a demanding production target.
  4. Follow and work alongside crews to safely, efficiently & effectively run the plant and ensure production, quality and housekeeping goals are met. Where & when required, act as the leader of the entire team.
  5. Assist in the management of the plant maintenance, to ensure all aspects of the Preventative Maintenance program are completed and optimized. Also, work with Maintenance Mechanic on breakdowns of equipment.
  6. Learn and become comfortable in the positions of loader operator and plant operator for required time of replacement/relief.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maximizing efficiencies in the production and planning of the plant.
  • Ensuring that production meets or exceeds quality standards
  • Using real time data to make decisions to optimize daily production.
  • Developing competencies in the team that lead to improved performance
  • Creating and maintaining a safe, fun workplace for all employees
  • Participate in the safety culture within the plant in all actions and instructions
  • Conducting or overseeing the execution of training with all plant personnel for both Safety and Operational excellence, including record keeping
  • Measuring critical safety metrics on a monthly basis, identify potential issues and take appropriate actions
  • Actively participating in Tool Box meetings for the crew.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent.
  • Post-Secondary academic diploma or degree in a technical field is an asset (ie. Millwright, Engineering).
  • Previous management experience in a manufacturing environment with proven technical competency.
  • Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on operations and business processes.
  • Knowledge of aggregate and wood pellet manufacturing equipment and mobile equipment a strong asset.
  • Able to identify key issues and keen sense of judgement as to when to lead, direct, and/or get hands-on.
  • Holds a clear and solid understanding of personnel policies, practices, and procedures and other operational issues faced by the organization.
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Maintains a high level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Maintains a well-defined sense of diplomacy, conflict resolution, and people management skills
  • Easily adaptable in the field as the demands of the plant changes.
  • Strong eye for detail.
