Innovation Projects 2012-2013

Powerful Learning

Strand One: Outstanding provision for Literacy and EAL across the district

EAL Digital Toolkits Pilot project

Rationale:

Through the innovative use of new and emerging digital technologies we aim to:

  • inspire and engage New to English learners
  • explore effective strategies to support and scaffold language acquisition
  • develop understanding and practice of Dialogic Talk, Talk for Learning and Talk for Writing

It is imperative that through the project we promote a belief that the quality of learning and teaching for Ethnic Minority Achievement can be enhanced by teachers working and learning together to develop. As a result of our investigations and explorations we aim to embed new learning about Ethnic Minority Achievement across Bradford Partnership schools and in turn empower others to spread and continue it.

Participating Schools 2012-2013

In consultation with Secondary Senior Leaders we agreed the main criteria for the selection of schools would be the following:

  • secondary schools with well developed EAL/EMA Departments who have a proven track record of raising achievement for New to English and Advanced Bilingual Learners
  • schools, therefore who have high numbers of new arrival students
  • schools committed to modelling and sharing their good practice across the district

As a result the following schools are taking part; Grange Technology College, Belle Vue Boys, Carlton Bolling College, Challenge College, Tong and Queensbury.
