Nancy Stuart Public Interest Award Application – 2018

The Nancy Stuart Public Interest Fund was established to continue the work of former Associate Dean and UC Hastings alumna, Nancy Stuart, in advancing social justice work within the Hastingscommunity and supporting students committed to closing the access to justice gap for marginalized communities.Awardswill be made to graduating students who are committed to pursuing careersfurthering social justice. Awardsare intended to reduce some of the burdensof those with financial need during the period between graduation and the July bar exam.

Recipients will receive cash grants, and will be honored at Hastings’ Public Interest Celebration on May 11, 2018, from 3:00-4:30 p.m.

Deadline for the Nancy Stuart Public Interest Award application is 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018.

  • Evidence of your continuing commitment to social justice efforts, including prior to and throughout law school;
  • Your future career plans or aspirations;
  • Any obstacles or challenges you have faced on this path;
  • Personal characteristics or experiences that you believe would assist the committee in its consideration.

3) Explanation of financial need (no more than 500 words)

  • Your financial plan for supporting yourself during your bar study;
  • Yourpersonal and family financial circumstances, including the ability of your family or other support systems to assist you during bar study;
  • Your prior scholarship awards or other academic grants, including any other grants or awards you’ve received or applied for to assist with expenses during bar study;
  • Your ability to apply for additional loans;
  • Any other information you believe is relevant to financial need.
