Analysis of last year’s final results: / Areas of Greatest Progress: / Areas of Greatest Challenge:
School-wide, our 3rd-6th grade students showed growth in each tested academic area as follows:
RLA: -2.1 to 0.7 resulting in 2.8% growth
Math: 0.5 to 3.3 resulting in 2.8% growth
Science: -0.9 to 0.3 resulting in 1.2% growth
Social Studies: -0.2 to 0.8% resulting in 1 point of growth.
RLA: 2012 target for proficient &advanced students was 24.5%, we showed growth of 25.2%, exceeding our goal by 0.7%
Math: 2012 target for proficient & advanced students was 19.2%, we showed growth of 22.5%, exceeding our goal by 3.3%
RLA: 47.2 % of our students scored proficient on the 2012 TCAP
Math: 44.4% of our students scored proficient on the 2012 TCAP / More growth is needed in Reading for grades 3rd-6th and Mathematics for 4th grade (currently our 5th grade students). In both areas, 4th made the least gains, while 5th grade demonstrated the highest gains in each content area.
Source of Progress:
Instructional Strategies: The teachers at Double Tree Elementary used several strategies to improve student achievement, including, but not limited to: more small group/differentiated instruction, more technology to enhance lessons, closely monitored assessment data to addresses below proficient areas, team planning for common assessment, and more professional development for teachers. Several of our teachers attended the Common Core math training during the summer (July 2012) and five attended the Common Core math conference (October 2012) to gain better insight of what Common Core and were provided instructional strategies that call for higher ordered thinking by students. / Source of Challenge:
School-wide for grades 3rd-6th, our students scored better in reading/comprehension than in grammar mechanics. Many of our 4th grade students from last year (currently our 5th grade students) lacked basic math skills as simple multiplication.
Monitoring of Data: Each 3rd-6th teacher maintains a data notebook that contains copies of the nine weeks instructional maps, lesson plans, and weekly common assessments. During PLS’s, teachers disaggregate their class room data to determine which instructional strategies will positively impact student achievement. Instructional support: Double Tree offers tutoring during school, afterschool, and on select Saturdays throughout the school year. Participating students were identified based on TCAP, report card, and Discovery data. Attendance rates were closely monitored as well.
