Shrewsbury House are the 2015 IAPS Sixes Winners
The finals of the 2015 IAPS Soccer Sixes took place on Sunday 22nd November at Bradfield College. Twelve schools had progressed to the finals via regional heats and a festival of football ensued. Our thanks go to Bradfield College for the use of their superb facilities.
Two groups of six teams played a round robin. League A saw Shrewsbury House win their first four matches and so head the group. The real tussle was for second spot with three schools all in contention as the last round of matches started. In the end Summer Fields pipped Westbrook Hay by a goal difference of one! Cumnor House ran away with League B winning all five group matches. St Anthony’s, entering the competition for the first time, were second losing once in the process.
The semi- final between St. Anthony’s and Shrewsbury House saw the latter team play some great passing football to record a comfortable victory. The other match between Cumnor House and Summer Fields was a much tighter affair. The game was end to end without either goal being really threatened. Extra time saw Summer Fields go ahead and then pegged back early on. Unable to split the teams after extra time the game would be decided on ‘sudden death’ penalties. Cumnor House scored their first kick and their goalkeeper saved the first attempt by Summer Fields to advance his team to the final.
The final was a keenly contested affair but Shrewsbury House always looked in control with their skill on the ball and patient build-up play rewarded with three well taken goals.
All the matches were played in a terrific spirit and were very well refereed by officials from the Berks and Bucks FA. We are extremely grateful for their part in a thoroughly enjoyable day of football.
