Neenah Lacrosse Club

2015-16 Honor Code and Team Policies

The following document contains an Honor Code and team policies that are expected to be followed year round by individuals who wish to be a part of the Neenah Lacrosse Club. It is a privilege to have an opportunity to play lacrosse and compete at the High School Level and that privilege may be taken away if athletes refuse to abide by the honor code below. Each member of the team, along with his or her parents/guardians, must sign and return this form to Paul Zielski, the Head Lacrosse Coach, before they can participate in the first practice of the season.

If a team member does not follow the team rules below they may be removed from the team on a temporary or permanent basis. The Coaching Staff has placed an increased importance on sticking to this Honor Code in which you all will have read and signed. This code goes well beyond the sport of Lacrosse; if you want to be successful in life the guidelines below are an excellent platform to help you attain that success.

Before we start!

·  We need you to as a Lacrosse player to “BUY IN” academically, socially, and athletically. The goal of this document is to clarify the rules of our Lacrosse program and to help establish the culture we are trying to establish within the Neenah Lacrosse Club and at Neenah High School. It will take all of us to be successful as a team and program to reach our goals! Become a student of the game of Lacrosse…by doing this you will learn values, skills, and create lasting and trusting relationships that will lead to Championship results in life and on the Lacrosse field.

Accountability:

·  Athletes should compete intensely on the field, but always conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner.

·  Represent themselves and their team, reflecting the highest standards of Lacrosse.

·  Respect officials, coaches, and opponents.

·  Refrain from using profanity or illegal tactics.

·  Conduct themselves according to Lacrosse rules.

·  TRUST: As coaches we need to trust you can strive academically, make positive decisions socially, train to your best abilities, be on time, and compete at the highest level you can.

Time:

·  If an athlete needs to miss practice or is running late they must notify a Coach! Notifying a teammate is not acceptable. Coach Zielski’s number is 920-284-2387, Coach Babbitts’ number is 920-277-3827. Put it in your phone and let us know if something comes up.

·  2- Un-Excused Absences from practice may result in a coach to athlete meeting that may result in a suspension or removal from the team. We need to know where you are each day from 3:30-6:00 if we do not hear from you we assume you no longer want to be associated with the Neenah Lacrosse Club.

·  Be on time everyday ready to put forth your best effort.

o  Why be present unless you are going to put forth your best effort anything less is just a waste of your valuable time.

·  Practice Start: All athletes should be on the field and completely dressed for practice by 3:40. P.M. Practice will begin at 3:45 each day.

·  Game days: On game days when school is not in session athletes must arrive to Neenah High School 30 minutes prior to bus departure. On school days you will have very limited time to get to the bus. Please leave school at your assigned release times and proceed immediately to the bus. All buses will pick up in the pool parking lot unless otherwise notified.

Academic Policies:

·  Attendance: Attend school/classes every day; missing school/classes may result in missed practices and competitions.

o  If you are absent from school you may not attend practice and you may not compete if it is during a day of competition.

·  Grades: We will abide by school policy on failing grades in relation to your position on the team. If struggling ask your teachers/coaches for assistance. They will be your best friends if you put forth the effort required to be successful.

Parent Policies:

·  Pledge to support and encourage your son as he participates in the Neenah Lacrosse program and understand that your role as a parent is critical to the success of this activity.

·  Support everyone on the team!

·  Do not ridicule or criticize the referee, coaches or players.

·  Do not argue with, antagonize, or be disrespectful to fans from opposing teams.

·  Agree to support TEAM play and not be overly concerned with individual play.

·  Do not shout instructions to players from the sidelines!

·  Agree to let the coaches – coach, and the players – play.

·  Respect coaches’ decisions regarding student participants and participation, and to save all questions and concerns regarding the activity or participants for a time when the atmosphere is conducive to problem solving, not immediately after a game.

·  If a concern does arise I agree to follow the following protocol:

§  Athlete is to first talk to their coaches regarding their concerns – these are young men who can handle this responsibility. No conversation voiced directly to the coaching staff will ever effect playtime. Athletes will have an “open door” policy with all coaches.

§  If your son hasn’t spoken to us first we WILL NOT speak to you the parent!

§  All conversations between coaches and athletes will be held in the utmost of confidentiality. If you’d like to know what was said ask your son.

§  After speaking to your son then parents can request a meeting to talk to the coaches. Again this will be done in an atmosphere that is conducive to problem solving.

§  If necessary Parent, Athlete, and coach can set up a meeting and talk to the Athletic Director.

·  Be aware that you represent yourself, your family, Neenah Lacrosse, and Neenah High School. Again, please treat the game, athletes, coaches, officials, parents, and fans with respect and demonstrate sportsmanship. HONOR THE GAME!
