Paper:

Analysis of and Response to a Work of Children's Literature

*Write an introduction that tells the reader what to expect in this paper. Describe how the paper's title ("Analysis of and Response to a Work of Children's Literature ") links to what you will write.

“Response” and “Responding” to Children’s Literature

*What is meant by “response” and “responding” to children’s literature? How is transactional theory used as a lens in regards to “response”? What components are involved? What stances are involved? Why is this all important for both teachers and students to know?

*How does “response” and “responding” connect to literary analysis? How does literary analysis connect to transactional theory and the efferent stance? What is literary analysis? Why is it important for both teachers and students to know about literary analysis and to be able to conduct it?

Text

*What text did you choose to work with for this assignment? Why? In narrative form, describe the following in regards to your chosen text: Author(s), Illustrator, Copyright Year, Publisher, and Format/Genre. Briefly summarize what the text is about.

Literary Analysis

*Choose two areas of analysis to focus on in this section. Write at least one paragraph per area where you analyze your text in light of the particular area being sure to include examples from the text that support your thinking in that area. At the end of the section in a separate paragraph, connect back to transactional theory and the efferent stance and how your work here is an example of that stance.

“Responding” to the Text

*Respond in written form to your chosen text. At the end of the section in a separate paragraph, connect back to transactional theory and the aesthetic stance and how your work here is an example of that stance.

Reflecting on This Work

*Reflect on what you have written. What was it like to both analyze and then respond to your chosen text? Why were able to choose your own text for this assignment? Why did it need to be a picture book that told a story (narrative)? How might this work have been different with an assigned text?

*Why did this assignment have you analyze and then respond to a work of children’s literature? How might this work affect your current/future teaching in the classroom? How might analysis and response/responding to literature be best taught to children? How comfortable are you at this moment in doing so? What questions still linger? How will you go about trying to answer those questions?

*Finally, how does the work of this assignment relate to the current unit-of study, teaching and learning about children’s literature? How has your work here helped you to meet the two learning and performance objectives behind the assignment and that are a part of this unit?

Conclusion

*Write a concluding paragraph that brings closure to the paper.
