Girls Cricket

39 girls from all parts of the county took part in an Under-11 Girls Cricket Day at Freeland on Sunday. The day consisted of a comprehensive coaching session followed by a round of games in the pairs format and produced much enjoyment.

Under-11 Competition

Horspath beat neighbours Oxford by 10 wickets on Monday. After Oxford had elected to bat, some inspired bowling by Charlie Turner who took two wickets without conceding a run and Hylton Harvey who returned 2 for 2 saw the visitors bowled out for 42 in the last of their 20 overs. Horspath knocked the runs off without loss.

Horspath registered another success on Wednesday with a win over Abingdon Vale, rattling up an impressive 180-1 with Luke Heritage unbeaten on 27 and Charlie Turner, Josh Richardson and Joe Gibbs each making 26. In reply Vale were 84 for 4.

At Charlbury the hosts posted 99 for 7 against Minster Lovell, with Nathan Doran 25 not out and Woody Grimes 28 not out, before hanging on to win by 19 runs.

Hook Norton posted 101 for 6 at Combe led by Will Ingham with 24. In reply the hosts subsided to 53 all out, Fraser Lovat doing most of the damage with 3 for 12.

At Banbury, an unbeaten 27 from Jack Morris saw Bicester & North Oxford to 78 for 5. Cian Gerber was the pick of the Banbury bowlers with 3 for 9 off his four overs. In reply, Ben Dyble with an unbeaten 26 and Jamie Rawal with 24 set the hosts on the way but wickets fell leading to a nail biting finish with Banbury’s last pair seeing them across the line.

At Challow & Childrey, Oxford Downs posted 111 for 2 thanks to Florence Miller with 27 not and Weller with 26 not out. In reply the hosts were restricted to 71 for 8.

Aston Rowant ran up an impressive 140 without loss against Cropredy, with unbeaten knocks by James Coles (28), Maximus Muncaster (25), Carrick Dunbar (27) and Liam Hester (20).Cropredy closed on 45 for 6.

At Wootton & Boars Hill, visitors Buscot Park produced some excellent bowling with Charlie Symonds taking 4 for 16 and Clem Davies 3 for 13 to bowl the hosts out for 87 in reply to Buscot’s 122 for 8.

Great & Little Tew had a 21-run win at Shipton-under-Wychwood, Tom Taylor top scoring with 19 in their total of 101 for 2.

Under-11 Development League

Great & Little Tew’s game with Shipton-under-Wychwood finished as a tie with both sides on 151. Rex Chiles and Charlie Megson took three wickets apiece for Shipton.

There was also a three wicket haul for Charlbury’s Jamie Bush to help his side to a comfortable win over Stonesfield.

Luke Heritage took 3 for 3 for Horspath as visitors Banbury reached 113, Horspath replying with 199.

An unbeaten 31 from Dan Lovick saw Freeland to 148 against Chipping Norton, the visitors finishing on 112 in reply.

There were some close finishes with Challow & Childrey hanging on to win by 5 runs against Blewbury & Wallingford, and Cropredy just getting their noses in front of Aston Rowant for a two-run win.

Under-13 Ron Maudsley Trophy

In a thrilling game that went to the wire, Tiddington knocked out Abingdon Vale. Joe Elliott and Harrison Wells with an unbeaten 31 apiece and Oscar Woodcock with 30 saw Tiddington to 121 for 2. Luke Maslen with 33 not out and Matt Bell with 30 not out led Vale’s reply and they looked well set with 3 needed off the last over and four wickets in hand. However, a hat trick from Woodcock reversed the fortunes, and the last wicket fell to a run out to see Tiddington through to the quarter finals.

In another photo finish, Minster Lovell made 96 for 5 against Hook Norton with Dee Jarvis 30 not out and Lewis Jones 27. In reply Hook Norton fell just one run short despite a battling 31 not out from James Ingham.

Didcot had a comfortable win over Freeland. The visitors’ total of 63 all out was never enough and despite some success with three early wickets an unbeaten 25 from Oscar Bean saw Didcot home.

Under-13 League

An all-round display by Sacha Sanderson saw Kidlington to a comfortable win over Oxford Downs. Downs made a flying start with Freddie Smith and Archie McLintock both making 30, but under-11 Sanderson took three wickets with his leg spin and then hit a quick 26 to set up the victory.

Ollie Doggett with 34 not out and Oscar Hlustik with 27 not out saw Great & Little Tew to 137 for 6 at Chipping Norton. The hosts’ reply closed on 74 for 7 with Owen Michael 31 not out.

Joe Clarke took 3 for 9 for Shipton-under-Wychwood as Freeland made 74 for 7 off their 20 overs. The visitors needed only 13 overs to cross the line with Gregory Woods 31 not out.

Cropredy won by two wickets at Twyford, who made 100 for 9 with Ben Bleasdale 31 not out. Ben Cross took 3 for 9 for Cropredy. Ben Jackson then made an unbeaten 32 as the visitors came home with an over to spare, Robert Hadley-Smith taking 3 for 32.

Charlbury had the better of the battle at Combe with 30 apiece from Ben Williamson and Mark Milner setting up a 32 run win.

An unbeaten 30 from George James and a spell of 3 for 3 by Forest Davis saw Bicester & North Oxford to a comfortable win over Chipping Norton.

Three wickets each from Lucas Pugh and Matt Clarke helped Warborough & Shillingford to bowl out Blewbury & Wallingford for 82 despite a solid 30 not out from Ed Goode. The visitors knocked off the runs for the loss of one wicket with 10 overs to spare.

Gauntlett Goblet

An unbeaten 25 by Sam Ratcliffe saw Chadlington to victory over Great & Little Tew.

Under-15 Competition

With one round of group games to go, the race for places in the knock-out stage is hotting up.

Buscot Park’s win at Minster Lovell “B” brought them to within one point of Group A leaders Abingdon Vale. An unbeaten 50 from Charlie Morgan backed up by 48 from Tom Lawrence sealed the win.

Challow & Childrey are third after winning at Kingston Bagpuize where Matthew Watts and Mike Billing each recorded half-centuries for the hosts and Watts followed up with 4 for 20.

In Group B,Aston Rowant stay in pole position after beating Oxford by seven wickets, Ben Coldicott making 50 not out.

Thame are only a point behind after half-centuries by Christian Warwick and Sam Nichols steered them to victory at Horspath.

Another three points behind are Pangbourne & Whitchurch who won at Tiddington, where Charlie Wheeler took 3 for 6. Charlie Elliott made 50 not out for the hosts.

Minster Lovell “A” look to have sewn up Group 3 after defeating Combe. Ollie Mersh struck an unbeaten 50 and Wes Spearman turned in a good all-round display with 47 runs and three wickets.

Second placed Shipton-under-Wychwood won at Kidlington thanks to 53 from Charlie Miller and 3 for 13 from Lewis Marstin.

Group D is settled after leaders Great & Little Tew’s emphatic win at Bicester & North Oxford. Henry Simmonds returned 4 for 14 as the hosts were skittled out for 59, Tew reaching the target with two wickets down.

Hook Norton’s Laurence Grimes returned figures of 4 for 4 in his side’s win over Twyford.

Schools Cricket

An increasing number of girls are featuring the county schools matches this season. The outstanding performance so far has come from Ellie Noble who scored an unbeaten 58 in an under-15 championship game for Wheatley Park as they scored 124 for 3. In reply Cherwell School scored 92 for 8.

In the Under-13 League Luke Higgins from St. Birinus made an undefeated 50 and took 4 for 16 in his school’s win over Matthew Arnold. Jake Blackwell scored 51 not out for Abingdon, also against Matthew Arnold.

In the Under-14 Cup, Lewis Dick returned figures of 4 for 11 as Burford School defeated Warriner.

In the Under-14 League, Charlie Porter produced the week’s outstanding bowling performance with 5 for 8 as Lord William’s beat Oxford Spires, Jamie Revill hitting an unbeaten half century.

Charlie Goulder took 3 for 28 for Abingdon School in their win over Burford in the ESCA Under-15 T20 Cup. A half century from Will Priscott could not prevent Bartholomew slipping to defeat at the hands of King Alfred’s. Andrew Francis top-scored for King Alfred’s with 38. An unbeaten 59 from Sam Nicholls saw Lord William’s to victory over Oratory.

In the under 15 Premiership, Henry Box totalled 131 for 4 with Olly Mersh scoring 79 and James Richards 31. Bartholomew finished just short in their chase on 125-6 with Ben Weller 34 not out and Will Priscott 33.

In the Under-15 League, Elliot Hale took 3 for 1 as Bicester Community College bowled out Carterton for 36. Oly Shaw with 43 and Jaylan Crockett with 40 steered Icknield to a 13-run win over Cherwell.
