Job Responsibilities:
The London office of Golder Associates Ltd. is seeking Licensed Archaeological Field Directors to join Cultural Sciences group. This exciting opportunity will allow you to develop your technical skills in the field with like-minded professionals in an employee-owned international firm.
Successful candidates will be responsible for the following:
- Supervising an archaeological Field Crew;
- Taking a leadership role in a team environment; and
- Providing effective direction with and providing support to members of the field technician group in both fieldwork and lab settings as required;
- Carrying out archaeological surveys, test excavation and mitigative excavation in a Cultural Resources Management setting;
- Conducting archaeological assessment in a variety of work environments outdoors in all weather with occasional overnight stays on out-of-town projects (double occupancy);
- Providing training to new archaeological field staff and refreshers to existing staff;
- Familiarizing yourself with Golder’s Project Management Protocol and technical standards in order to support the project managers in the delivery of consulting services to our clients;
- Participating with other Golder staff in client development appropriate to your level;
- Participating in Golder’s Health & Safety program and monitoring the Health & Safety performance of archaeological field employees;
- Demonstrating a “Safety First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff;
- Maintaining a high standard of ethical behaviour to uphold Golder’s reputation and demonstrating a commitment to our Core Values; and
- Performing other duties as required.
Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Possess an Archaeology, Anthropology or related Degree from a recognized program;
- Previous experience in archaeological fieldwork and the ability to observe and instruct others in good field methodology at a brisk pace;
- Previous supervisory experience;
- Knowledge of Ontario culture history;
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- Valid research or Professional license to conduct archaeological fieldwork granted by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Culture;
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle for business use would be considered an asset;
- Good written and verbal communications skills; and
- Strong organizational skills.
