Hours: Up to 29 hours per week. Working various shifts in a 24/7 operation.

Note: This is a part-time position (up to 29 hours per week). The incumbent will be required to adhere to College Policy 1-D-08, Special Constable Authority, and work alternating shifts, some weekends and on call.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-Secondary education or equivalent or a combination of formal education and relative work experience may be accepted. Relative work experience may include loss prevention, physical security work or working with those individuals in personal crisis within the mental health services fields and satisfactory knowledge of the laws of Canada and the Province of Ontario
  • Three years of relative work experience (Work experience in a college campus environment is desirable; education may be substituted for experience)
  • Have a strong understanding and experience with mental health awareness and satisfactory knowledge of the Mental Health Act of Ontario
  • Must have no criminal convictions without pardon and be able to qualify for, be appointed to, and maintain special constable status through background checks conducted by both Fanshawe College and the London Police Services Board and receive clearance from the Ontario Provincial Police, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and/or other jurisdictional authorities for access to CPIC and other restricted databases. These clearances are a condition of employment and must be maintained.
  • Canadian Red Cross First Responder Course, or equivalent, Dispute Resolution or Crisis Intervention training
  • Must be able to pass a physical fitness and aptitude test
  • Strong leadership, analytical, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge/experience with basic investigative and interviewing techniques
  • Ability to take charge in emergency situations and be able to recognize and maintain confidentiality of security information
  • Understanding of the College community and Community Based Policing principles
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Valid Ontario driver's license
