SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT/POLICIES
Lee Freshman High School
Lee Freshman High School and the parents of the students participating inactivities,services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary andSecondary Education Act (ESEA) (participating children), agree that this compactoutlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share theresponsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which theschool and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achievethe State’s high standards.
This school-parent compact is in effect during the 2015-2016school year.
REQUIRED SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT PROVISIONS:
School Responsibilities
Lee Freshman High School will:
1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effectivelearning environment that enables the participating students to meet theState’s academic achievement standards as follows:
We will adhere to Texas required standards (TEKS), use district scope and sequence, and follow district-approved curriculum as well as school and departmental guidelines.
2. Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools)during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individualstudent’s achievement. Specifically, those conferences will be held as needed and may also include additional personnel who have a vested interest in the student’s success (counselors, principals, academic coaches, etc.)
3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their student’s progress.
Specifically, the school will provide progress reports at the middle of every grading cycle, grades every six weeks, and additional reports pertaining to specific student issues as needed. Parents will also have access to 24-hour electronic viewing of grades, which will be posted in a timely manner.
4. Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available
for consultation with parents during established daily conference periods with optional times available upon request. Parents mayalso contact teachers through their school email account, which can be found under campus information on the MISD website.
5. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their student’sclassroom/school functions, and to observe classroom activities. These opportunities include, but are not limited to, PTA, CEIC, Rebel Muster, scheduled informational campus parent meetings, special projects, or per parent, teacher, or student request. Observation of classroom activities must be scheduled in advance.
Parent Responsibilities
We, as parents, will support our student’s learning in the following ways:
• Monitoring attendance (95%) and tardies.
• Promoting the value of education bymaking sure homework is completed and assisting the school in holding my child accountable for his/her learning.
• Supporting existing school and/or district policies or advocating for change by using district-established procedures.
• Working as a team with campus teachers/staff to help direct my student toward success.
• Volunteering in my child’s classroom/school and participating in parent activities/meetings offered by the campus.
• Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my children’s education.
• Promoting positive use of my child’s extracurricular time, which may include monitoring/limiting amounts of free time activities (TV, cell phones and texting, computer and/or electronic games, etc.)
• Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with the schoolby promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district received by either my child or by mail, by listening to recorded messages from the teacher, school, or district and by responding, as appropriate or necessary.
• Serving, to the extent possible, on policy advisory groups, such as being the Title
I, Part A parent representative on the school’s School Improvement Team or School Support Team (CEIC), theTitle I Policy Advisory Committee, the district’s Policy Advisory Council, the
State’s Committee of Practitioners or other school, district or state advisory or policy groups.
OPTIONAL /ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS:
Student Responsibilities
We, as students, will share the responsibility to create a positivelearning environment and improve our academic achievement toattain the State’s high standards. Specifically, I will:
1. Cultivate a positive learning environment by showing respect for teachers/staff, my classmates and my school.
2. Promote the value of education by takingresponsibility for my learning and making sure my behavior fosters an academic environment that facilitates learning for me and those around me.
3. Do my homework every day and ask for help when I need it.
4. Read at least 30 minutes every day outside of school time.
5. Promptly give to my parents or the adult who is responsible for my welfare all notices
and/or information received by me from my school.
6. Attend tutorials when necessary or requested by the teacher.
7. If absent, realize it is my responsibility to ask for make-up work and get it returned in a timely manner that is in keeping with district policy.
Additional Required School Responsibilities (requirements that schools must follow,but optional as to being included in the school-parent compact)
Lee Freshman High School will:
1. Involve parents in the planning, review, and improvement of the school’sparental involvement policy, in an organized, ongoing, and timely way.
2. Involve parents in the joint development of any school-wide program plan, inan organized, ongoing, and timely way.
3. Hold an annual meeting to inform parents of:a) the school’s participation in Title
I, PartA program with an explanation of requirements, and b) theirright to be involved in Title I, Part A programs. The school will schedulethe meeting at a convenient time to parents, and will offer additional parental involvement meetings such as morningor evening so that as many parents as possible are able to attend. The school will invite all parents of students participating in the Title I, Part Aprogram to the meeting, and will encourage them to attend.
4. Provide information to parents of participating students in an understandable, uniform format and include alternative formats upon the request of parentswith disabilities, and, to the extent practicable, in a language that parents canunderstand.
5. Provide to parents of participating studentsthe information concerning the Title I, Part A programin a timely manner. This will include a description and explanation ofthe school’s curriculum, the forms of academic assessment used to measure students’ progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet.
6. Upon the request of parents, will provide opportunities for regular meetings forparents to formulate suggestionsand to participate, as appropriate, indecisions about the education of their children. The school will respond toany such suggestions as soon as practically possible.
7. Provide to parents an individual student report about the performance of their student on the state assessment inall core subjects tested (math, language arts and science).
8. Provide each parent timely notice when their child has been assigned or hasbeen taught for four (4) or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is nothighly qualified within the meaning of the term in section 200.56 of the Title IFinal Regulations (67 Fed. Reg. 71710, December 2, 2002).
Optional School Responsibilities
In an effort to build and develop a partnership with parents to help their children achievethe State’s high academic standards, Lee Freshman High School will:
1. Recommend to the local educational agency (LEA), the names of parents of participating students of Title I, Part A programs who are interested in servingon the State’s Committee of Practitioners and School Support Teams.
2. Notify parents of the school’s participation in any readingor literacy programs operating within the school ordistrict and the contact information for them.
3. Work with the LEA in addressing problems, if any, in implementing parentalinvolvement activities in section 1118 of Title I, Part A.
4. Work with the LEA to ensure that a copy of the SEA’s written complaintprocedures for resolving any issue of violation(s) of a Federal statute orregulation of Title I, Part A programs is provided to parents of students and toappropriate private school officials or representatives.
