Project Coordinator - Institutionalization of Immediate Post-Partum IUD Services

The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO)isseeking to recruit a highly motivated and qualified Project Coordinator to support the Institutionalization of Immediate Post-Partum IUD Services Project.

FIGO is the only organization that brings together professional societies of obstetricians and gynaecologists from around the world. The organization's mission is to promote the well-being of women and their children and to raise the standard of practice in obstetrics and gynecology globally. FIGO commits its resources to the promotion of sexual and reproductive health and rights through educational, research and advocacy activities and to strengthening its communication links with and between its member societies.

Institutionalization of Immediate Post-Partum IUD Services

FIGO has completed the first part of a three year project whichaims to address the postpartum contraceptive needs of women by training delivery staff and institutionalizing the practice of offering immediate postpartum Intra-Uterine Device services (IUD) in key teaching hospitals in Sri Lanka. FIGO now seeks to expand this initiative to a further five countries: Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Nepal, and Tanzania, for a period of three years.

In connection with this programme, FIGO is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and qualified Project Coordinator who will support the Project Manager in the implementation of the project together with the Project Director, Deputy Project Director and Chief Executive.

The core functions of the Coordinator will include:

  • Providing all necessary administrative and logistical support for FIGO PPIUD team including conference calls, meetings, conferences, travel and accommodation arrangements
  • Facilitating the procurement of essential medical equipment and training materials in conjunction with the countries
  • Working in close collaboration with the Project Manager and National Project Managers to develop country training schedules and materials
  • Supporting the editing and updating of training, data collection and reporting tools
  • Supporting the Project Manager and Directors to facilitate national level capacity building activities on providing postpartum IUD services and on using service data for improving performance in all countries
  • Supporting the PPIUD FIGO advocacy and dissemination strategy and preparation and dissemination of information on project progress and lessons learned within and outside FIGO including preparation of presentations and organisation of workshops and conferences
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of narrative and financial information from participating countries, maintain financial records of the project, and support preparation of donor narrative and financial reports in collaboration with the FIGO PPIUD and financial team
  • Occasional country visits to provide project management and implementation support, together with the Project Manager and/or the Project Directors

The Project Coordinator will work under the immediate supervision of the Project Manager

The ideal candidate

  • Will beaninternational development specialist with experience in supporting the management of projects in low-resource countries in Africa and Asia
  • Will be an experienced administrator possessing excellent interpersonal, writing and communicationskills together with the ability to work with a diverse and cross-cultural range of stakeholders
  • Will have excellent and proven organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Will have proven competency in report writing and data handling together with the ability to meet tight reporting deadlines
  • Will be experienced in the preparation, monitoring and reporting of project budgets
  • Will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team and be able to exercise autonomy and personal authority as needed
  • Flexibility and creative problem solving
  • Will be able and willing to travel internationally three or four times a year for periods of five to 10 days at a time

The term

The position will be a fixed-term appointment initially ofone year upon successful completion of a three month probationary period. The term maybe renewed annually for up to three years based on satisfactory performance and continued project funding.
