Wimberley High School

Course Syllabus for Geometry

Dear Parents and Students,

I am looking forward to having your student in class this year. Geometry is a study of how points, lines, angles and figures relate to each other. By combining geometric concepts, we’ll study two and three dimensional figures. Applications, problem solving, and reasoning will be emphasized making connections to Algebra and Trigonometry. The class will also prepare students to master the TAKS test and the End of Course State Geometry Examination.

Along with being issued a textbook (which they should keep covered) to have at home, each student will have access to an online textbook and other interactive activities such as step-by- step examples and short teaching videos for both student and parent. Each student will be given a user name and password. Students enter the information at my.hrw.com and click on “Log In”.

SUPPLIES:

Please bring the following supplies to class every day: binder(1 ½” 3 ring), notebook paper, grid paper, pencils, red pen, highlighter and 5 subject dividers. Students are required to keep a notebook for this class.

Bring for the classroom 1 box of 10 count crayola markers and 1 box of tissues.

GRADING POLICY:

  • The grading system each six weeks will be 60% from major assessments (tests, projects, and daily quizzes) and 40% from daily assignments. Students will have some homework almost every class period. I encourage students to do their homework the same day it is assigned.
  • Late work will be handled according to the Wimberley High School late work policy. Work not turned in by the due date will receive a maximum grade of 70 if turned in one day late. Work turned in two class periods late will receive a maximum grade of 50. Late work will not be accepted after two class periods.
  • A test review will be given before all major tests. Students that complete the entire test review prior to the test will be allowed to retest, should the need arise. The test review is my way of providing a way for students to study. I have found, in most cases, students that do the test review are very successful on tests. Students who do not prepare themselves for tests by completing the entire review will give up their option to retest. To be eligible for a retest, the student must attend at least one tutorial period and then take the retest within one week of receiving the failing test grade. A maximum grade of 70 can be earned on that retest. This policy does not apply to semester exams.

I am available for extra help daily during tutorials. Students having difficulty needto be attending tutorials on a regular basis. Tutorials will be held mornings from 7:40 – 8:30 and afternoons from 3:20 – 3:45. I will be available every morning except Wednesday. Please contact me if you have any questions. My conference periods are B-2. My school e-mail is . The best way to contact me is by e-mail.

Thank you in advance for your help and for allowing me the opportunity to teach your child.

Sincerely,

Wesley Lambert
