Matalam High School Anti-Bullying Policy

  1. The Matalam High School expects students to conduct in a proper manner in keeping with their levels of development, maturity and understanding the rights and welfare of other students.
  1. The Matalam High School believes that students with good health, strong and with sound personality could anticipate consequences, resolve conflicts, make proper decisions and aware of culture sensitivity.
  1. The Matalam High School acknowledges that effective and consistent on the campaign against bullying, it is necessary to conduct annual training and symposium to administrators, faculty and staff and parents on school policies and procedures about bullying and harassment. The training aims to provide clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities and necessary means to address the problems.
  1. The Matalam High School sets a standard for students’ behavior through discussion among the students, parents, guardians, staff and other stakeholders to produce and environment that encourages students to develop self-discipline and learn to respect the rights of others. The development of this environment needs for self and others, the community property and on the part of the students, faculty and staff, parents and community members.
  1. The Matalam High School believes that the best discipline for improper behavior is designed to: help students in taking responsibility for actions develop compassion and to teach optimism that motivate the students’ proper behavior. Teachers who interact with students shall apply best practices/strategies designed to prevent discipline problems and encourage students’capability to improve self-discipline.
  1. The Matalam High School develops and implements procedures that ensure both the applicable consequences and correct responses to a student who commits one or more acts of bullying and harassment. The administrator shall consider the different factors for determining consequences (eg. degree of harm, age, development, and maturity levels of the parties involved.)
  1. The Matalam High School principal requires the guidance, prefect of discipline and all teachers to be responsible for receiving complaints alleging violations of this policy. All school employees, students and other stakeholders are required to report alleged violations of this policy to the principal. Reports can be made by a person whose name is not known, but formal disciplinary action may not be based solely on the basis for an anonymous report.
  1. The Matalam High School principal designates the guidance counselor/prefect of discipline responsible for determining whether an alleged act constitutes violation of this policy. Thorough and complete investigation must be completed within five school days after a report or complaint is made. The parents of the students involved must receive a letter or written reports from the school on the result of the investigation. All reports on bullying and harassment must be recorded by the school for a yearly data review purposes.
  1. The Matalam High School prohibits reciprocating any student who reports an act of bullying or harassment or conniving in an investigation. The consequences and appropriate correct action for a student who engages retaliation must be clarified by the administrator after reviewing the nature and circumstances of the act.
