Learning Objective(s):

2 – Students will understand their post-secondary plan

Materials: 10 Computer labs, Folders with students’ names, transcripts, Graduation Agreements, Counselor Talking Points

Procedure: Students log-in to Family Connections (Online Post-secondary tool) and take a pre-test. Using talking points, counselors go through transcripts generally as well as the Graduation Agreements. There is also a focus on the college application process. At the conclusion of the lesson, students complete a post-test.

Plan for Evaluation: How will each of the following be collected?

Process Data: 598 seniors students participated in the Senior Career Unit lessons which included a Pre and Post-test. Students were scheduled through 1st block to attend these counselor classroom guidance lessons. The first half of each counselor’s alpha came to the designated computer lab for the first 45 minutes of the block and the 2nd half of each counselor’s alpha reported for the 2nd 45 minutes.

Perception Data: Each student completed a Pre and Post-Test on Family Connections (Online post-secondary tool). "Have you set any academic goals this year?" reported a .6% increase. "Do you know if you are on track for graduation?" reported a 2.6% increase.

Outcome Data: Our graduation percentage increased from 98% in 2014 to 99.998% for the class of 2015. The only student to not make it passed all her coursework but was not able to pass her End of Course exam in Reading and Writing.

Follow Up: We were thrilled with our outcome data. We will continue this group and strive for 100% graduated every year. We may consider expanding the group to provide more students with some of the skills they have lacked throughout high school.
