The Pride & Tradition Continues…

Why is a Mentoring Program Needed

at Lincoln Northeast High School?

Data from first-year teachers show:

·  When decisions were difficult to make, 90% said they wanted assistance, but only 33% felt they received help.

·  68% wanted assistance with instruction, only 49% felt like they received help.

·  They reported feeling isolated and intimidated by their colleagues.

·  There is a need for support in areas of: instruction, management, and professionalism

·  A need exists for alleviating stress that is associated with beginning teaching as a profession.

Gail A. Wilkinson, Journal of Staff Development, Spring 1997, Vol. 18, No.2
