Milk Program School has been Milking It for ______Years!!

Drinking milk at school has never been so rewarding. To honour School's ____th Anniversary in the Elementary School Milk Program, local dairy member presented a commemorative plaque to Principal at a celebration that included cold, refreshing milk and lots of smiling faces. School is one of over 2800 Ontario schools that will receive an award for their participation in the Elementary School Milk Program. Now in its 25th year, the Elementary School Milk Program partners schools with local dairies to offer students cold, nutritious and affordable milk at lunchtime every day.

Schools really like the program because it is an important service for families and helps to raise funds for school activities. It also encourages school spirit through milk rewards and fun milk events such as the Milk Mustache Challenge.

“The number of participating schools in the Elementary School Milk Program has been growing steadily in the past 25 years,” said John Leveris of Dairy Farmers of Canada. “Students love the program for the great tasting milk and fun rewards, and parents feel good knowing their children are getting energy and 16 essential nutrients they need to stay healthy, alert and ready to learn every day.”

“The program is driven by volunteer parents, students and teachers. In some cases, the senior students run the milk program to gain practical, real-life experience,” said John and local dairies provide the assistance schools need to set up a successful program, including a Five Star Milk Service that minimizes the administration for the school.

The Elementary School Milk Program reaches more than 1,000,000 Ontario students every day. The program is organized at each school by parents, students and teacher volunteers in partnership with their local dairies and Dairy Farmers of Canada.
