Specific Role Purpose: / The role of the Business Analyst is to articulate business change needs, assess the impact of those changes, capture, analyse and document requirements and then support the communication, progress and delivery of those requirements to the Project Manager and all relevant stakeholders
Specific Role Responsibilities: /
  • Undertaking, within West Midlands Police and partner agencies, the methodical investigation, analysis and documentation of Business functions, processes and the information used
  • Collecting, understanding and transmitting the business requirements for the project, and translating these into functional specifications and detailed test plans
  • Including the definition of requirements for improving any aspect of force processes and systems and the creation of viable business specifications in preparation for the construction of information systems
  • Document workflows and results of business analysis and obtain sign off from the customer on the specifications
  • Work in partnership with West Midlands Police colleagues and outside agencies to provide advice and guidance on business processes and financial/technical procedures in support of the force’s purpose, goals and objectives
  • Provide the link between the customer, development team and any 3rd party regarding software functionality throughout the development lifecycle
  • Where necessary, plan and guide the delivery of small/medium sized projects overseeing the work of in-house teams or contractors.
  • Business test solutions and resolve relatively complex problems and issues through their own skills and/or liaison with different departments or third party suppliers
  • Assess and recommend software and hardware products to meet business requirements and customer expectations
  • Any other duties commensurate with the role and band/grade

SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE
Knowledge & Experience
This section should detail the requirement of previous experiences and knowledge gained from academic qualifications if appropriate. E.g. significant experience of administrative duties, degree level educated.
Essential: /
  • Business Analysis and information Modelling: Knowledge and experience of using various tools and techniques to help understand and document a business and its operation
  • End to end experience of project lifecycle with proven experience of interacting directly with end users
  • Information capture Techniques: The selection, application and successful use of information gathering methods, tools and techniques that are appropriate to the information required and the sources available
  • Post holder will typically be professionally qualified, plus 4-5 years’ experience in similar/related roles or have a proven track record of relevant work experience demonstrating deep, specialised and / or broad knowledge of a field of work experience.
  • ISEB BCS Diploma

Desirable: /
  • Substantial Business analysis experience and ideally some management or professional responsibility, development and implementation experience

  • Results orientated with good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Possesses a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experienced and competent in the use of MS Office applications (specifically Sharepoint, Visio, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Desirable:
Hours of Work and Flexibility: / The post holder will be contracted to work 36.5 hours per week but will need to be flexible to meet the demands of the post and may have to work outside normal core hours.
The post holder will need to have the ability to travel to different locations across the region, as required
