Quarter Test Study Guide

Test Date: ______

General: Test will be a combination of multiple choice, True/False, and fill in the blank. There will also be word problems on calculating GWAM and converting GWAM grades to letter and numeric grades. It will be a computer based test that is 204 points. It is 14% of your quarter grade. STUDY!!!!!!

Computer Parts (See “Computer Quest” worksheet):

-Know CPU -Hard Drives/Floppy Drives

-Motherboard -Keyboard Names

-Inventor/Names of keyboard -Hardware/Software

-3 Functions of a Computer -“Office Button,” “Title Bar,” and

-Input/Output examples “Ribbon User Interface/UI”

-Why is “plug and play” important? -Know BIOS

-Memory storage and size -Know what a modem does.

Class Expectations (See “Class Expectations” file and listed in class):

-Know where to find them

Keyboarding Techniques/Posture (See “Keyboarding Skills Observation” file and listed in class):

-Know where to find them

Keys (See “Color Coded Keyboarding” file. This WILL NOT be listed in class):

-Know “Home Row.”

-Know appropriate Hand and finger location of keys covered in Lessons 1-12 (Example: What is the appropriate hand and finger position for the “U” key? Answer: Right Index Finger).

-Keys covered: A, S, D, F, J, K, L, ;, H, E, I, R, O, T, N, G, ., U, C, B, Y

-You will have use of your keyboard to help you. Color Keyboarding Chart will NOT be posted in class.

GWAM:

-Abbreviation for Gross Words A Minute

-Word problem example: Mr. Stephenson took a 5 minute timed test and typed in 500 total words. What is his GWAM? Answer: 500 words divided by 5 minutes or 100 GWAM.

-Using the Grading Scale in class, know how to convert GWAM grades into letter AND numeric grades

Foundation Skills (See “Foundation Skills/Atlas” worksheet):

-Know the 6 categories covered in class: Home, Business, TV/Entertainment, School, Music, Sports.

-Know that keyboarding is a “Foundation Skill” for future success.

-Know that keyboarding “saves time” and “increases communication.”

-Know exact percentage of jobs in US that utilize keyboarding/computers covered in class.
