Teacher’s Guide to Using Naviance
Students will still request letters of recommendations from you in person. If you agree to write a letter, the student will also process an electronic request to you on Naviance. If a student is using the Common Application,you will have access to complete the Common Application Teacher Form through your Naviance account. All written letters of recommendation can be uploaded to Naviance directly from your computer at school or at home. Some colleges that do not accept the Common Application still will allow recommendations to be sent electronically. There may be instances when particular colleges do not accept electronic recommendations; those will still need to be mailed but hopefully those cases will be few.
The following is a step-by-step guide to introduce you to this system of submitting recommendations. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for support!
- Log in to Naviance Succeed
(we recommend bookmarking the site as one of your ‘favorites’)
Account = benet
User name = first initial/last name (e.g. awesley)
Password = you should have received an email with a log in code to Naviance Succeed. You will change it to a personal password the first time you log-in. If you have forgotten your password, we can re-set it for you.
- Update your profile/information by clicking Setup on the Naviance tool bar
Click on My Accountand Edit My Profile to update your information. Please update your title and include your phone number here at Benet. All of this information will show up on the Common Application, so please be sure it is accurate. Click on Save when you are finished.

The eDocs tab will bring up the page where you will upload your written evaluation and fill out the Common App teacher report. Next to “Teacher Documents”, there is a drop down menu.
If the student is applying with the Common Application(as will be indicated on the Teacher Recommendation Request Form given to you by the student’s respective counselor):
- To send your completed recommendations, click on the Send Formstab.
FAQ’s:
When completing the Common App Teacher Evaluation, you do NOT have to complete the checklist, although you certainly may.
You DO have to complete the “How long have you known the applicant” and the “What are the first words…” questions. If you answer these questions in your letter, feel free to write, “Please see my letter of recommendation.”
The Common App Teacher Evaluation form will automatically be sent with your letter of recommendation to all Common App schools. For NON Common App schools, you may submit your letter by itself.
Not every college requires a teacher letter of recommendation (and praise God for that!!). Some require 1 letter, others require 2. So… PLEASE only submit to the colleges that you receive a Teacher Recommendation Request Form for, signed by Laura, Kendall, or Amy.
