National Certificate in Aviation (Introductory) (Level 2)

Level / 2
Credits / 41

Purpose

This qualification has been designed for secondary school students. It is designed to provide an overview of the aviation industry and its career paths. The compulsory section of the qualification incorporates standards that cover general knowledge and possible career paths within the aviation industry.

The elective section enables students interested in pursuing a particular career path to obtain standards at level 2 or above, in any of the following sectors: Aeronautical Engineering, Aeronautical Storekeeping, Aircraft Mechanical Maintenance, Avionic Maintenance, Aircraft Servicing, Aircraft Operation, Airport Operations, Flight Attendants, and International Air Express. This elective also allows for the selection of a range of generic skills that are required in a variety of employment contexts.

This qualification prepares people for entry into further National Certificate and National Diploma level qualifications in the areas of Aeronautical Engineering, Aeronautical Storekeeping, Aircraft Operations, Aircraft Servicing, Airport Operations, Flight Attendants, Ramp Operations, and International Air Express.

Special Notes

It is intended that secondary schools will form links with relevant aviation sectors in order for students to gain credit for standards in the aviation industry elective and complete the requirements of the certificate. ServiceIQ will help facilitate this and in cases where students have passed equivalent Civil Aviation Authority exams, award credit for the corresponding unit standard by Recognition of Prior Learning.
