Earth and Environmental Science

Nancy Abrams & Liz Baker

Welcome to 6th Grade Science

Curriculum

During the year we will be developing skills for learning about the world that we live in – making observations, asking questions, forming hypothesis, collecting data, as well as interpreting and analyzing data for a greater understanding. We will cover a variety of topics to develop and enhance these skills along the way. We will complete a variety of projects, labs and assignments.

By the end of the school year you will be able to answer the following questions:

  • In what ways do organisms, both on land and in water, interact with each other and the environment?
  • Why does the appearance of the surface of the earth seem to change, sometimes pretty dramatically!
  • What impact can humans have on Earth’s ecosystems?

Procedures

Please bring the following to class everyday:

  • A pen and pencil,
  • Science binder,
  • Textbook,
  • Agenda, and
  • Green Folder

When you come into your science classroom, there will be an Objective Statement and Warm Up Question on the board. The Objective and Warm Up routine is a great way to get you ready for class – you will be able to figure out what we are doing that day and have a chance to think a bit about the topic we are studying. It will be your job to come to class and copy the Objective and answer the Warm Up question in the Objective and Warm Up Section of your notebook as soon as you enter class. Be sure to keep your notebook organized and up to date.

All assignments should be completed on time and written in best effort draft form (spell checked, complete sentences. Your name, date and main should appear on the upper right corner.

It is your responsibility to keep up with your class work and homework, even if you are absent. There are several ways to do this:

  • Call a classmate (in your main)
  • Middle School Webpage Course Page (
  • Email your teacher (Nancy Abrams or Liz Baker )
  • If for some reason you are unable to do your work, please communicate this to your teacher before class starts.

In order for us to use our classroom time effectively and to get the most out of this class, you are asked to keep the Rules for Community Living in mind (this can be found in your Homework Agenda Book).

We are looking forward to a wonderful year!
