If submitted by mail, you should mail the form to Oxford Program (Attn: Michele Oswald), Dedman School of Law, PO Box 750116, Dallas, Texas 75275-0116.

Applications will be accepted as follows. All applications submitted on or before 2:00 p.m. (Central Standard Time) onWednesday, February 7, 2018, will be placed in a pool of applications. If there are fewer than 36 applications, all applicants will be accepted into the program. If there are more than 36 applications in the pool, applications will be accepted by lottery but students enrolled at SMU will be given preference. Those not selected will be placed on a waiting list by date of application with preference given to SMU students who have submitted their applications before the deadline on January 29. Applications received after the deadline will be accepted (if there are places) or placed on the waiting list in the order in which the applications are received.

Notices of acceptance (and placement on the waiting list) will be sent out by the close of business on Thursday, February 8. In fairness to colleagues, an applicant who does not plan to enroll should promptly inform Ms Oswald that he or she is withdrawing.

The acceptance of initial applicants is conditional on payment of an initial $500 deposit by the close of business onThursday, February 15. (An applicant accepted after January 30 must pay this initial deposit no later than one week after notice of acceptance is sent.) A second $500 deposit is payable by the close of business onWednesday, April 4. These deposits will be applied to the program fee if the applicant attends the program. If an applicant withdraws, any deposit paid before withdrawal will be returned only if a substitute is found. The remainder of the program fee is payable by the close of business on Wednesday,May 16 (actual date to be determined by University).

Payments should be made by checks made out to “SMU Dedman Law School” and delivered or mailed to Michele Oswald. An applicant who does not make a payment when due will be removed from the list of admitted students.

For the purpose of financial aid applications, you will be told the amount of the total program fee dedicated to room and board after the SMU Board of Trustees set the charge for tuition and fees. The board makes this decision at its December meeting.

Enrollment in Classes

Each student participating in the Oxford program enrolls in a course taught by an SMU professor or lecturer and in a tutorial taught by an Oxford tutor.

Students will be divided equally between the two SMU teachers so that enrollment in neither course will include more than 18 students. We ask you to rank in the order of preference (i.e., put "1" next to your most preferred course; "2" against your next preference) so that we may assign you to a course. We will make every effort to give participants their first choice of courses.

Comparative FreeSpeech: U.S. and the U.K.(Carpenter)
International Energy Development: How Law and Regulation is Shaping the Future of Energy(Coleman)

Students will also be allocated along similar lines among the tutors. At this time we anticipate that the following tutorials will be offered.

English Legal System (Hanna)
Comparative Criminal Justice (Shute)
Comparative Human Rights Law (Bamforth)
Introduction to the European Constitution (Barber)

Students who do not receive their first preference of courses will begiven priority in the selection among the tutorials.

Please read carefully and sign.
