Position Title: Elementary Lab School Principal Mary Beck Elementary School
Qualifications: Required: Indiana Elementary School Principal’s Certificate and Master’s Degree. Five years teaching experience.

SUMMARY: Establish Mary Beck as a regional destination for the promotion of strong instructional practice through job-embedded professional development and coursework opportunities, advanced through partnership with the School of Education, Indiana University South Bend. Provide instructional leadership to staff including: curriculum planning, review and implementation and professional development. Responsible for day-to-day building administration and the safety and welfare of students, staff and activities. Ensure a safe, pleasant and effective educational atmosphere, provide discipline as necessary and enforce school policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Other duties may be assigned):

FAMILY AND COMMUNITY

●  Engage families in the education of their children and keep them informed on the learning process.

●  Advocate strongly for family involvement and recognize the importance of parent engagement.

●  Navigate and facilitate relationship building among teachers, parents and students.

●  Prioritize work across organizational lines to support, develop, manage, and promote all partnerships, including local agencies, IUSB and all stakeholders.

●  Recognize and value strengths within the Mary Beck community.

●  Maintain a visible presence within the building and community.

PERSONAL SKILLS

●  Develop and maintain a culture of caring for, and about, students and the community the school serves.

●  Demonstrate a passion for learning and the ability to build a successful learning community.

●  Commit to self care and personal growth.

●  Delegate authority, as well as provide leadership and support to staff; and coordinate their efforts.

CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

●  Commit to a Growth Mindset through ongoing PD for improvement of instructional practices, technology and research-based effectiveness.

●  Create and implement effective student achievement plans.

●  Maximize the use of data to assess the effectiveness of instruction and guide the utilization of various instructional strategies.

●  Possess knowledge of curriculum in a supportive learning environment that values independent thinking.

●  Promote an inclusive instructional environment for the learning of all student populations.

●  Understand the unique needs of diverse learners, including English Language Learners (ELLs) and cultivate the implementation of WIDA standards in each classroom.

MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP

●  Foster excellence in collaboration and promote a deep commitment to the well-being of people and children.

●  Display a working knowledge of, and ability to manage, a federal grant (partnerships, compliance and budget), the school improvement plan, and district/university initiatives.

●  Advocate for a peaceful learning and teaching environment:

○  Promote and support pro community building initiatives;

○  Implement positive behavior responses;

○  Apply a positive school-wide behavior plan, and;

○  Believe in authentic and growth minded forms of discipline.

●  Facilitate the growth and development of future educators and mentor teachers through collaboration with IUSB School of Education.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Manage employees in the elementary school and early childhood centers. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this unit. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring, and training employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: Required: Indiana Elementary School Principal’s Certificate and Master’s Degree. Five years teaching experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Indiana Elementary School Principal’s Certificate and Master’s Degree.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific fields. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
