PARKS COMMISSION

October 1st, 2014

7:00 P.M. – Village Hall

PRESENT: A.J. Balch, Tom Battaglia, Roger Pacos, Janet Nalbone, and Terry Dimaggio.

Meeting called to order by A.J. Balch at 7:00

Motion byJanet Nalbone, seconded by Terry Dimaggioto approve theSeptember, 2014 minutes. All in favor.

Old Business

Halloween Preparation:

  • Tom has sent letters to the Police Dept., Fire Dept., and DPW asking for their assistance on parade day.
  • The order was placed for cider and donuts to Tops Market. Tom also asked if they would be willing to donate some of the costs.
  • A donation request was sent to McDonald’s Restaurant asking them if they could provide small drink cups.
  • Personal requests were made to the FHS Student Council and Key Club to see if they’d be willing to help serve the cider and donuts at the conclusion of the parade.

RJP Improvements and Maintenance:

  • Tennis and basketball court cracks
  • Tom presented the information to Rick. Estimate for crack repair using the ARMOR process from Superseal of Rochester was $5400.
  • The village board opted for a simpler crack repair, costing $500.

New Business

Village Website:

  • Villageoffredoniany.com
  • Recreation Department has its own page.
  • Tom has already added information.
  • Please visit and let Tom know of anything that might be beneficial to add.

Winter Program:

  • Basketball
  • Scott VanDette is returning and will coordinate both the Elementary and Middle School sessions
  • Elementary program will move to Tuesday from Monday to avoid scheduling conflicts
  • Middle School program will remain on Wednesdays
  • Wrestling
  • Steve Dando will be returning to coordinate program
  • Tuesday and Thursday evenings (follows the Varsity Team practice).
  • Basketball and wrestling will start the week of December 15.
  • Note: After meeting with Athletic Director Scot Stutzman, we were asked to move our start date past the holiday season because he was finding difficulty scheduling gym time for Fredonia’s winter sports teams. Our program will run 6 straight weeks beginning with the week of January 4, 2015.
  • Community Ice Skating
  • Budget cuts forced a reduction to 10 dates.
  • Friday – Sunday 12/26-28; Sat. 1/3; Sun 1/11; Sat 1/17; Sun 1/25; Sat 1/31; Sun 2/8; Sun 2/15
  • Cost remained at $175 per hour
  • All session will run from 11:45 AM to 12:45 PM

  • A.J. will provide a microphone and speakers for the Halloween Program.
  • Motion to adjourn by Terry Dimaggio, and seconded by Janet Nalbone. Carried.
  • Next meeting will be Wednesday November 5that 7PM at Village Hall
