Rhetorical Speech
Due Friday, March 23rd. Speeches will be delivered in class.
To complete our study of rhetoric, students will be showing mastery of this topic by writing and delivering an audience-appropriate persuasive speech. This process must start with brainstorming. What topic will you discuss that requires persuasion? iPhone over Android? Yeti over Ozark Trails? The advantages of being an athlete? The disadvantages of social media? Take a few minutes to brainstorm a topic that actually interests you.
After the brainstorming process, you will collect information to support your argument/claim. It is important to show that your opinion can be supported by available data, so research articles related to your topic (2 or more sources required). Be sure to use valid sources -no Wiki, Answers.com, Ask.com, etc. Remember to give appropriate credit to your sources in your speech and on a works cited page.
Instructions
Write and present a 1-3 minute speech on any audience-appropriate topic. Your speech must include:
- Typed speech outline in MLA format (refer to provided example)
- Typed works cited page (2 or more sources)
- Ethos, Pathos, and Logos
- 2 additional rhetorical devices from handout
- 3 clear points
- Visual aid
