SUBJECT: United Way Campaign Starts [Date Here]

Dear team members,

Mark your calendars! [Company’s] United Way Campaign begins [date].

If you’ve supported the campaign in the past, you know that it’s an easy way to give to our community.

If you’re new to the campaign, let me give you a quick snapshot of what it’s all about. United Way of Westmoreland County is a local nonprofit that’s working to build a stronger community and help people in need across the county (last year, they helped over 140,000 people!). They make it easy to give back and support the causes you care about through donating, advocating and volunteering. One way to donate is through payroll deduction: you fill out a pledge form and your gift is automatically deducted from your paycheck and sent to help our community. You can choose to give directly to United Way -through their Impact Fund - and your gift is invested where it’s most needed. You also have the option of designating your gift to any 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the U.S.

Year in and year out, the United Way focuses on building and improving three areas of community: education, income and health. Through these initiatives, they are able to support and help the greatest number of people. But this year, there some exciting new things happening too:

United Way of Westmoreland County is committed to increasing the number of students reading at grade level by the end of third grade.

Why third grade? Because it’s a common predictor of future success. Until third grade, students learn to read; after third grade, they read to learn. If a student is behind at the end of third grade, they’re more likely to stay behind throughout their education. But, a positive push in early education from United Way and our community will help more students be prepared to read, learn and succeed by third grade and beyond!

I’ll be emailing you soon about our campaign kick-off event and more information about United Way. In the meantime, you can learn more at facebook.com/unitedwaywestmoreland or @UWwest. And just let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for moving kids and families toward better lives!
