Projects/Announcements – CAMPUS

New! Library Refurbishment Works

Where is it? Library, all floors

What is happening? Refurbishment of the existing area including new furniture, reconfiguration of certain spaces, decoration, power, data and AV installation.

What is the latest progress? Building works are ongoing with furniture installation taking place w/c 11th September. Works due for completion October 2017.

UPDATED!Conversion of ‘Astons’ Space on MB6

Where is it? ‘Astons’ (MB652)

What is happening? Refurbishment of the existing area to create a Graduate School Hub to provide additional space for PG students

What is the latest progress? Strip-out works are ongoing. Works due for completion October 2017.

UPDATED! MB1 & MB3 Refurbishment

Where is it? MB1 (H Stairs - A Stairs) & MB3 (H Stairs - D Stairs)

What is happening? Refurbishment of the existing area to create academic offices, open plan research areas, breakout space and a new central teaching room.

What is the latest progress?MB3 has completed and users have moved in. We still are addressing user comments to allow them to settle in to their new space. MB1 is nearing final fit-out is underway including furniture installation and testing / commissioning. Works to MB1 due for completion first week of October 2017.

UPDATED! Fire Safety Improvements (Fire Strategy - Phase 4)

Where is it? Main Building, all floors

What is happening? Enhancing of Main Building’s fire safety by replacing doors to electrical riser cupboards, service hatches, and enhancing the fire safety of other doors around the building mainly in corridors and stairwells.

What is the latest progress? All works to replace the crawl void hatches has been completed. Works to other areas, as such as replacing electrical rise doors, are to be done out-of-hours to avoid impact onto building users, and taking into account bookings made in lecture theatres that are a part of the Central Teaching Rooms.Programme for completion to be agreed with the main contractor.

UPDATED!Notice of Major Refurbishment works – New Photonics Laboratories

Main Building Lower Ground

As ofApril 10th 2017 the lower ground of the Main Building was not accessible from staircase (H Stairs) due to major refurbishment works taking place - the staircase (H Stairs) has now REOPENED. The works are expected to complete during October.

There continues to be no access to the toilets located in the lower ground H lift lobby area until the works are complete, alternative toilets located as follows:

Energy, Environment & Sustainability

Bicycle shelters

ECD have fitted gates to three more cycle shelters on campus. One at front of the library, one at the back of the library and one by the Aston Brain centre. Please e-mail you require the code to get in.

Ongoing - Roadworks

Highways England is undertaking essential repairs to the M5, Oldbury Viaduct, (started Julyand running for at least 18 months through next year). These works will have an impact on journey times in these and surrounding areas.

Ongoing - Changes to the Wolverhampton Metro

The Midland Metro line that operates tram services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham is closed between Priestfield and Wolverhampton St. George’s for essential tram track maintenance works. A replacement bus service is available to and from Priestfield to the City Centre and the metroservice will resume at the end of the year.

Facilities

A British Institute of Cleaning Science audit was completed on 29th September and Helen Woodman is now an assessor to ensure we can deliver the training and assessment to the ECD team.

Six new cleaning operatives will join the team between 9th and 16th October.

Shelly Fitzpatrick starts 16th October as a new Cleaning Team Leader.

Furniture Purchasing and Stores

The Portering Team provide a service of light removals and deliveries, small scale office moves, the setting up of rooms for functions and events and the provision of poster boards for display purposes (subject to availability).
